Co budeš dělat
I will pick you up and escort you to a village. In each village, we will visit three different artisans’ studios. They will show you the age-old concepts and techniques of their work, and examples of their own individual innovations. Close interaction with these young masters will give you a unique, off-the-beaten-track experience in understanding living traditions. We will have a delicious home-cooked lunch at one artist’s home, and meet his family. Then we will meet the artisan designer group and enjoy an exhibition of all of their work. If you like, you may purchase directly from the artisans.
Founder Director of Somaiya Kala Vidya, I have lived in Kutch and worked closely with artisans for 29 years. I founded Kala Raksha Vidhyalaya, the first design school for traditional artisans. For this concept, I was awarded an Ashoka Fellowship in 2003. In 2014, I transferred the program to Somaiya Kala Vidya and in the last 6 years, I have expanded the program to include Outreach, Workshops, and Open Studio tours. I was awarded the Sir Misha Black Medal for Distinguished Services to Design Education in 2009, the Crafts Council of India Kamla award in 2010, and the George B. Walter’36 Service to Society Award in 2014. I have also directed textile tours to Kutch and beyond since 1980, and run workshops since 2003. My close personal relationships with artisans provide an unparalleled opportunity to experience traditions up close.
