Co budeš dělat

Taste traditional Cuban dishes as you explore the city

This is unique way to experience and sample traditional homemade Cuban cuisine, learn about its origins while we explore the city and it's culture. We'll cover the highlights of Cuban food culture in Havana's central Vedado neighbourhood.
We will start by visiting a paladar—a local, family-run restaurant and bar—to taste and learn about preparation of Cuba's famous cocktails, the mojito and daiquiri, learn about their ingredients and presentation. We'll continue our experience by walking past Vedado's important sights—the University of Havana, the Coppelia ice cream parlor, Callejon de Hamel and the Dance Museum among others—to learn about Havana's modern side. When we arrive at a restaurant, we will taste starters and main dishes of traditional Cuban cuisine. We'll discuss the culture behind the food, and you will learn about food origins, preparations, and ingredients while enjoying the atmosphere. We will then walk to our final stop, a local cafe, to sample a traditional Cuban dessert and finish with very strong Cuban coffee. My aim is for people from all over the world come together to share the common interest of learning about a new culture through food. See you soon.

My husband Ricardo Carol and i are deeply passionate about our Cuban roots and culture—particularly the origins of Cuban food, and learning and sharing the influences of other cultures on Cuban cuisine.
In my case, i discovered my passion for food while I was a little girl, helping my grandfather prepare Sunday lunch for the whole family. He was the most important chef of Tropicana before 1959, and started teaching me about various ingredients, food preparation, and origins.
My husband and i love to cook and host cooking classes for friends, sharing our knowledge with them.

Maryla and Ricardo were terrific! It felt like hanging out with some friends who showed me and my other friends around their town! This is a great way to experience Havana. Really fun and informative experiences and discussions.

Maryla and Ricardo were wonderful hosts. We came with a group of 5 thirtysomethings, and we met up with the couple who were warm and welcoming and had a lot of stories to tell. They play a great duo: Ricardo is the funny storyteller who talks a mile a minute whereas Maryla reins him in and keeps him on track. Both spoke English well but Ricardo spoke ESPECIALLY well and would make repeated US cultural jokes. They know about history, economics, technology, and especially the politics in Cuba. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Maryland and Ricardo were wonderful hosts! So much history to share and lots that we had no idea about. Only downside was the weather, started to get chilly and trying to rain. Bring a Warangal sweater if you are going for the evening.

Maryla and Ricardo were fantastic. They immediately made is feel welcome and answered all of our questions about life as Cubans. They fed us the best mojito of my life (I can't drink mojitos anywhere else!), a huge meal near the university, and delicious coffee drinks for dessert. The highlight, however, was the knowledge and honesty Maryla and Ricardo shared with us. We learned so much more than we ever could have imagined in those 3.5 hours. And they even helped us book a different tour when they found out some of our other plans fell through. Please support this couple and book this tour !

Where do I even begin? Due to some very fortunate circumstances, we got to enjoy an intimate food & culture journey with two newly inducted family members, Maryla & Ricardo. An absolute dream come true. Before the experience, they were very helpful, giving us very good directions for where to meet them both. Once we got to the meeting point, we were greeted with two of the biggest smiles - instant warmth and familiarity flooded us as we introduced ourselves and sat down for the first part of our experience. Both Ricardo and Maryla are incredibly inviting, funny, and genuine. They are VERY knowledgeable and are very passionate about Cuba. During this first part, in addition to getting acquainted, I had NO idea that I was going to have what was EASILY the best mojito I have ever had in my life (side-note: this meeting spot is the only place that can make mojitos this way!). We learned about the origins of the mojito and the cultural significance of every ingredient. After that, we went on a stroll to take in the architecture and then were off to the next spot, an authentic Cuban restaurant (paladar) to try several traditional dishes in a private room (!!!!). Every step on this tour led to new insights of the old world and showed us a different side of Cuba. We ended up at a well-known coffee shop to enjoy some Cuban coffee and wrap up the experience. Every dish and drink was different in its own way with its own story and was delicious. This was well worth the money, I actually think this experience is worth more than what we paid. The whole experience didn't even feel like one, it just felt like we were walking around with very close friends. I cannot recommend this experience more! If you are still in doubt, please message me (somehow) and I’ll change that for you with the pictures I took! Also, there are some reviews here that bring down the overall rating of this experience due to things outside Maryla & Ricardo’s power (lack of Vegan food or chickens running around in a restaurant). Don’t pay attention to those reviews! Go in with an open mind and you won’t regret it. I can’t wait to go back and see them!
