We are Jorge Fitz and Beto Estúa, two local chefs who had been in contact with the local flavors. We've been offering this experience for over three years, and we’ve hosted more than 1,300. With us, you’ll learn to eat and live like a local–we'll even share the secrets we promised our grandmothers we'd never tell.

A day with Alberto (and Jorge) at Casa Jacaranda is one that should not be missed when visiting Mexico City. It truly was one of the highlights of our trip! I became aware of this experience through an article written about them in Bon Appetit magazine. I though I would never be able to get a space in something like this but Alberto personally emailed me back and gave me information and instructions. We began the day at the Medellin Market where our group of 8 were given a tour and had the chance to stop and learn and sample some of the tastes of Mexico. Alberto shared with us the backgrounds on some of the things we would be buying and cooking that day. We then had a chance to sample some "street food" outside the market and enjoyed some fresh tlacoyos made right in front of us on a hot grill. From there Alberto took us on a walk from the market to his home, along the way stopping off for some warm, handmade tortillas. We then made our way to Casa Jacaranda, which is the beautiful home of Alberto and Jorge. They invited us upstairs where we spent the next 2 hours prepping and making the lunch that we would be eating (tortilla soup, several types of salsa and fish tacos). It's definitely a hands on experience and everyone gets to take part with Alberto explaining everything along the way. Once complete we were directed to a beautiful rooftop where our lunch would be served. It was the perfect ending to a perfect class, accompanied by some history and tasting of Mezcal and tequila. Alberto never rushed anyone and we are all made to feel as welcome guests in his lovely home. I highly recommend this experience and thank you again Beto y Jorge! Jay

We had the best time in this cooking class. A truly immersive experience, first at the market Medellín where we learned much about the history of the area, tasted various local chiles, tomatillos, and Mexican coffee. From the market, we walked to Casa Jacaranda stopping to learn more about the history and importance of corn in Mexico while enjoying fresh nixtamal tortillas from a local tortilleria. Back at Casa Jacaranda, we began the cooking process in a beautiful space with skylights allowing the sun to pour into the room. The class size was relatively intimate with eight total participants, which added to the experience. Following the preparation and cooking, we enjoyed our creations on the rooftop under a lovely shade at a beautiful table. Beto makes you feel incredibly welcome and is such a thoughtful teacher explaining all of the ingredients we used and the way each flavor interacts with the dish. We felt like we were friends invited over to cook. We did this class as a couple on our first day in Mexico City and it was a most perfect introduction to the city.

Fantastic experience! Beto and Jorge had a lovely house with curated collections and historic charm. The lessons in both the market and the kitchen table were thrilling and delicious. We made several salsas and sauces, a tortilla soup, and fish tacos. They were some of the tastiest we have ever had! We look forward to preparing these recipes for our friends back in NY.

Alberto (Beto) was fantastic in every sense of the word "host". Our journey started off low key ~ diving into the market place and slowly unravelling a little bit of culinary history, history, culture and dynamic nature of Mexican cuisine. Visiting his spots, his local purveyors of all things fantastic in produce, spices etc... was really great. The tortilleria and the gentleman behind it was a stand out. But it was stepping into the beautiful Casa Jacaranda ~ his home with husband Jorge ~ that was really special. Love, a life lived, arts and culture hummed off the walls as a backdrop to cooking. The direction was clear, accessible, and passionate... nothing was intimidating about it as sometimes cooking can be. The food is some of the best Mexican cuisine we've had, probably because we knew all that went in it... and my wife and I were pretty astonished we were capable of making it at all! Retiring to the lovely rooftop and enjoying our meal, sipping Beto's select mezcals and enjoying... it was all just a perfect sort of vibe. Highly recommend doing this. We look forward to coming back and bringing our friends to get cooking with Beto and Casa Jacaranda!

Alberto's class was fantastic. We had a fun and informative time exploring the market and learning about traditional Mexican ingredients. His instruction was clear and everything we made turned out delicious. Enjoying the food on the rooftop after preparing it was very pleasant. And we got to take all the recipes home with us to try out on our own.
