Co budeš dělat

On the half day, half Island tour, we will take the State ferry to Sapelo Island from the mainland dock near my home while dolphins frequently dive in the boat's wake, rent an air conditioned, heated SUV from an Island resident, and tour the southern half of Sapelo with you driving, with stops for short easy walks. First, we'll see the University of Georgia's Marine Institute where "the father of ecology" made ground breaking discoveries of the previously unknown value of Georgia's salt marshes, the largest on the eastern U.S. coast. We'll walk by R.J. Reynolds dairy barn, now a research laboratory, see his unique beautiful Turkey Fountain, former carriage house, staff apartments (formerly an inn) and more. Then we'll drive to the impressive nearby R.J. Reynolds Mansion, which we will tour if a group isn't staying there. Next, we'll drive to unspoiled Nanny Goat beach on the Atlantic Ocean and the scenic Sapelo lighthouse, built in 1810, then tour the Hog Hammock African-American National Historic Area with with one store, two churches, and one bar before taking the ferry back to the mainland. If time allows, we will also tour the tabby ruins of the mule powered sugar mill.

I'm a retired local writer for area newspapers who has made a 30 year study of the history of Darien, Georgia, Georgia's second city, and of Sapelo Island just 6 miles offshore from my house, where I have hunted, fished, biked, hiked, boated to, and swam on the beach for over 30 years. I have had a lifetime interest in history which I minored in at the University of Georgia while getting a degree in journalism before a 25 year career in conservation with the state and federal government and two non-profit conservation organizations with state-wide memberships. Kde budeš

Only invited guests of Island residents or employees of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and of the University of Georgia's Marine Institute may ride the state ferry to Sapelo Island. We'll take a short drive to visit the Marine Institute's quadrangle with the former R.J. Reynolds Dairy Barn now used for laboratories by UGAMI and the unique Turkey Fountain. Then we will see the R.J. Reynolds Mansion, Nannygoat beach, and Hog Hammock.

Jim really knew the island and added many stories and unknown fact and folklore as well about its famous inhabitants. All in all it was a good experience and added another dimension to our trip. Many of the sites we’d have never gotten to see otherwise.

The tour of the island with Jim was really interesting! He shared many stories and showed us areas that were way off the beaten path which we never would have found on our own. He knew everyone and he even introduced my daughter to several marine biologists who spent time discussing their research with her (she is studying in the field). We had a great experience - thanks Jim!

Wonderful tour by Jim! He was personable and knowledgeable, and we loved the risqué stories the best😁 Would definitely take this one again.

An interesting morning with a man who’s spent years in this mainly unspoiled natural area. Jim can recount numerous colorful stories from the lives of those who have called Sapelo home. The ferry ride was lovely.

I don’t recommend this tour as the guide is old and talks mostly about the sexual habits of the former occupants of the island. Very disrespectful to to the former occupants and their heirs. We didn’texpect to pay forty dollars for that kind of information. We were very disappointed and dissatisfied with this experience. Extremely unprofessional.

Thank you Mr. Morrison, we enjoyed or stay before and after our adventure to Sapelo island. Great host and tour guide for the island.. great choice for a tour guide for the island if you want his unique perspective. You could take the state run tour with everyone else on a bus but you will probably not get this unique tour guide and his personal stories and his unique perspectives. You get a private tour with Jim’s take on history, wildlife, and for me hunting in the local area. He has a half day and whole day tour, we took the whole day. Staying at his home made it easy to get up, make breakfast and pack a lunch and lots of water for our trip. Pack bug spray! House is great and the room is huge with a lounging area in the room with a king size bed, bathroom is shared but we were the only one using it.
