Have you ever explored any of the towns a little further out from the 23 wards of central Tokyo? You would be surprised to know that only a 20 minute train ride from Shinjuku Station will bring you to Chofu, a peaceful lovely town where temples and shrines from ancient times and its beautiful nature are still preserved. As a lover of Western Tokyo, I'll show you these, as well as many other hidden gems, including a cute anime inspired ghost cafe (Kitaro Chaya)! We meet up at Chofu station, and then walk towards the second oldest temple in Tokyo (Jindaiji). I'm sure you will find it exciting as there are so many "secret", unique charms scattered along the way such as a local shopping street with statues from a famous Japanese anime, a shrine that has a history of more than 1,000 years, a river famous for beautiful cherry blossoms, and the remains of a samurai castle! When we get to the temple area, we will try some local snacks and test our fortunes with Omikuji (fortune slip/ oracles). I strongly recommend trying a red bean paste mochi (rice cake). They taste so good! In addition, we can check out Kitaro Chaya, a tea house based on the famous Gegege no Kitaro manga and anime. After exploring, let's have soba (buckwheat noodle) for our lunch :) This town is originally well-known for producing high-quality buckwheat! I'll take you to the nearest bus stop when the tour ends.
I am a 25 year old nationally licensed tour guide & one of the youngest Airbnb experience hosts in Japan. I love to find secret spots and chill at slow-paced, cozy cafes. "Tokyo Hidden Gems", a community I made has now 350 members. I have been fortunate enough to have opportunities to visit 33 out of 47 prefectures in Japan since I was a child, thanks to my parents who are passionate travelers, which has raised my interests in traveling and let me work in the tourism industry after graduation. I have experiences of working at a stylish hostel, and at the largest travel agency in Japan.

The town is well-known for Jindaiji, which is the second oldest temple in Tokyo, and is famous for delicious buckweat noodles (soba). In addition, it has a lot of unique charms, such as a themed cafe, “Gegege no Kitaro Tea House", a botanical garden, and even the remains of a castle! Also, in recent history, Chofu has also been known as a “Cinema town”, since more than 40 movie and video companies are gathered around the area.
