Co budeš dělat
THERE IS A 4 PERSON MINIMUM to conduct the full tour at this discount. Groups fewer than 4 can be accommodated at the normal price of $50 per person. We will take you on a personalized tour of the biggest outdoor art museum in the country by one of its founders, artist Mario Torero. We will transport you by passenger van or meet you at the park. Mario himself will take you on the tour of his and others colorful murals, decorated pylons and historic paintings of the Coronado Bridge collectively referred to as Chicano Park. You will learn the history of the Spanish colonization of San Diego including facts about the Kumeyaay tribe. Chicano Park is the birthplace of Chicano Civil Rights where the local community blocked the construction of a police station in the middle of the barrio. Murals illustrate this struggle to affirm the Chicano culture in San Diego. Guests will tour the numerous murals just off the Ceasar Chavez Avenue, ask questions of the artists and learn the little known local history of the Chicano movement that changed America in the early '70s. You will be invited for a Mexican Chocolate with your guides at the Por Vida cafe in the heart of Logan. Then either return to the house or discover the hidden galleries of Logan's oft-overlooked local arts district. Where art prints and souvenirs are for sale. https://www.sandiego.org/articles/parks-ga
The renown artist Mario Torero, whose house you will be staying in, grew up in Logan during the '70s in the midsts of the protests, activism, and the ensuing creation of the famous Chicano Park. I am his business manager and art critic who has written aboutTorero's murals in Chicano Park, now a national historic park. His expertise as a painter, a muralist, public artist and public speaker is unmatched in San Diego. At 73, Mario Torero is one of the premiere Chicano artists in the country. In 2018, more than nineteen of his original mix media art on paper were purchased outright by the Library of Congress for their permanent collection. In May 2019, Torero's original Chicano Park Map (our cover photo) was officially acquired by the Smithsonian to be included in their permanent collection.
