Výborná lokalita

Quirky 3 bedroom cottage built in 1927 and lovingly updated over the last 15 years. Only a few minutes from town, but hidden away in the woods with fabulous views of Overlook Mountain from our large deck. Perfect for 2 couples or a family with kids.

Prostor
We love to entertain - our kitchen is newly remodeled and well equipped. There's a charcoal grill and a large table out on the deck, as well as a hammock and lounge chairs. Dig around in the cabinets in the kitchen and you'll find everything you need.
You can hear the distant drum circle on a Sunday afternoon but other than that, just the birds, frogs and cicadas. We've seen owls, eagles, woodpeckers and all kinds of warblers from our kitchen window, also deer, foxes and gangs of roving turkeys!
There are trees to climb, corn hole, speedminton and other games to play and a big thinking rock. There are places to swim a short drive away when you need to cool off.
Our home is relaxed and easy going, lots of books, games and a TV and a DVD player with movies, Netflix but no cable - the perfect escape from a busy week. Simple and cozy.

Přístup pro hosty
Whole house. We ask guests to please stay away from the old shed on the property, be careful around the pond, especially with young children and to keep their outdoor entertaining on the deck or in back of the house out of respect for our neighbors.

Coronavirus Update: We leave 4 full days between bookings for the safety of our guests and housekeeper. Our home is thoroughly cleaned between visits. Our home is situated on a large lot away from other homes and is very private. We ask our guests to respect social distancing recommendations, and to cancel the booking if they or any member of their party have been sick within 14 days of the scheduled visit.

Woodstock, New York, Spojené státy

A few places to go nearby:
The Comeau: Lovely land owned by the town with 2 miles of trails that take you through the woods and down alongside the creek. Drive through town on Rte 212 towards Bearsville and take Comeau Drive on the left after the Woodstock Apothecary. Park up at the top and follow the trail.

The Big Deep: Hidden away in the woods, opposite Gallo’s nursery on Rte 212 towards Sauugerties, this is Woodstock’s famous swimming hole – take the lane after Casablanca Lane and park in the trees. It’s not actually that deep, but a sharp bend in the river has created a natural swimming hole. Families by day, kids and hippies by night. Take bug spray, and please take out anything you bring in.

Tinker Street Cinema: Old school cinema on Rte 212 towards Bearsville. Only one screen, it’s a bit rickety, but totally charming and worth a trip.

Houst and Sons: Simply the best hardware store in the world. Go.

Weekend Flea Market (and Wednesdays in the summer): On the field behind Houst’s and Bread Alone. Lots of great junk and treasure, Farmer's market and sometimes food stands.

Drum Circle: Every Sunday 2-4 the drums are beaten and anyone can join in. There’s a big box of instruments if you didn’t pack a bongo.

Festivals: We have the Book Festival, the Writers’ Festival, the Guitar Festival, the Film Festival, the Fringe Festival, the Tattoo Festival and many more, almost every weekend there’s something to be festive about. Check The Woodstock Times or www.hudsonvalleyone.com for more info.

Opus 40: Zena Road, on the way to Saugerties. Gorgeous stone ramps and dead ends in Harvey Fite’s would be sculpture park. He spent 40 years building the park and never actually got around to sculpting again.

Byrdcliffe: Site of the first incarnation of Woodstock as an artist’s colony in the 1920s.

For the kids: There’s a new playground at the Woodstock Elementary School which is open to all. Up at Andy Lee Field on Rock City Road just past the cemetery is another playground, ballfields, tennis courts and basketball courts. Also a skate park, but you will have to register with an adult to attend. Tinker Toys in town is the toy shop your kids will never want to leave.

A little further afield:
Phoenicia:
Great little town about 25 minutes drive up Rte 28. In the summer, famous for it’s Tinker Town Rentals- tubing down the Esopus (kids must be over 12). Plenty of great hikes nearby and a quaint town center with shopping and good food.
The Phoenicia Diner: Definitely a finer diner, just breakfast and lunch, long lines but well worth the trip, farm to table, no-nonsense.
Sweet Sue’s: Probably the best brunch this side of the Hudson. Debbie Harry used to be a waitress here.
Brio's: Pizza, sandwiches, burgers and extraordinarily great cakes.

Saugerties:
Slightly bigger than Woodstock, and a bit of antiqueing center. Lots of nice restaurants and cafes. Worth walking down to the “town beach” which sits on the edge of the Esopus.
Miss Lucy’s Café: great family food, lovely environment.

North South Lake: Haines Falls. State Park High up in the mountains, beautiful lakes with boating, swimming and hikes up to incredible views across the Hudson Valley. You’ll drive past Kaaterskill Falls on the way – spectacular and easy to get to.

Pine Hill Lake: Rte 28 at BelleAyre. Old school lake recreation ground, perfect for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding. Open Memorial Day to Labor Day with lifeguards, but you can park outside and walk in the rest of the year.

Places to Eat in Woodstock:
Cucina: Modern, Italian, delicious food and great cocktails. Huge place, but it gets busy. Worth booking. Great brunch too.

Joshua’s: Israeli-American food, hearty and tasty. Coffee bar upstairs
Bread Alone: Wonderful breads, pastries, coffees and lunches.

Maria’s: across the road from Bread Alone, tucked behind the Christmas shop – café and deli, good place to get food for your picnic.

Oriole 9: Modern American, farm to table menu. Really good coffee.

Sylvia: New addition, fine dining - pricey but delicious. In the historic Joyous Lake building.

The Colony Cafe: Great music venue with bar and dining. Check out listings or just rock up on Rock City Road.

I am a documentary and TV editor based in NY but yearning for more time upstate. My husband, Rich who is an actor/director and I bought our house in 2002, the year before our son Gus was born. Gus is mad for baseball and grew up mostly covered in mud in the garden. I refer to our home here as "my lungs" - a breath of fresh air and peace after the busy weeks in the city. We have a dog, Felix, but we don't allow dogs with guests out of respect for our neighbors. Most of our time is spent hanging out with friends, cooking and playing games, visiting the many great swimming holes in the neighborhood and forgetting to check our phones.
