The architecturally award winning Lake house boasts spectacular vie'ws over Lake Tinaroo and surrounding forest. A one hour scenic drive from Cairns, we have two guest rooms each with: private entry, quality queen beds and individual ensuites. Naturally air conditioned with blackout curtains for privacy. High quality finishes throughout. Butterflies & birdlife abound. Ideal for couples, or solo adventurers. 3 minute walk to the lake. Enjoy magical sunsets from the deck or the private pontoon.

The Tinaroo Lake House is situated on 1.5 Hectares of absolute lake front in a tropical rainforest setting. It offers, (as separate bookings), 2 individual rooms (both with private ensuites), so it's ideal for; a solo traveller, a couple or two couples travelling together or separately. This is a perfect base for guests to explore all of the natural wonders and the food trails of the lush Atherton Tablelands.

For bird watching enthusiasts, this is a perfect base with more than 300 species in the local area including some of the highly sought after species such as the Victoria's Rifle bird, chow chills etc. over 100 species sighted on the property. Hosts can provide great local information and possibly guiding.

•3 minute walk, down to the lake and exclusive use of the private pontoon jetty for fishing, swimming, relaxing, turtle spotting and if you're lucky, maybe even spot a platypus.

Tinaroo Lake House is your perfect base to explore the natural Paradise and food production area that is the Atherton Tablelands. Being only a one hour very scenic drive from Cairns, this is a perfect addition to any visit to the world famous Cairns & Great Barrier Reef area. At an elevation of 850 meters we are much cooler than Cairns, something you'll appreciate in the summer months.
We are located in the Atherton Tablelands, one of the most beautiful regions in Australia. Soaring Mountains, extinct Volcanoes, exquisite lakes & waterfalls, pristine rainforest, rich farming lands, food trails and historic sites; search “Atherton Tablelands Images” and take a look for yourself.
By car, to just some of the area’s attractions, we are only:
•10 minutes to beautiful Lake Barrine and it's Tea House where you can take a cruise or a 45 minute walk around the Lake through magnificent rainforest
•15 minutes to Yungaburra Village to experience the colourful markets, (monthly), spa, historic pub, cafés, boutique shops, galleries, handmade arts & crafts antique stores, platypus viewing and the famous Curtain Fig Tree. Nearby is the Avenue of Honour commemorating Australian soldiers killed in the Afghanistan conflict.
•15 minutes to Lake Eacham where you can swim, walk around the lake, use the free BBQ and picnic facilities
•25 minutes to Gallo Dairy Land; a working dairy farm, cheese and chocolate factory, with a restaurant. You can view cheese making and milking the cows and animal nursery.
•20 minutes to Malanda, the heart of the dairy farming industry, here you have shops, a hotel, clubs and café’s for meals and the beautiful Malanda falls, for swimming. You could make a night of it with a meal then a trip down memory lane by taking in a movie at the historic Majestic Theatre, with its old world architecture and canvas seats.
•25 minutes to Atherton, the main shopping precinct and Administrative Centre for the Atherton Tablelands. The Crystal Caves Museum boasts one of the world’s largest gem and crystal collections and displays. Visit the National Trust listed Hou Wang Chinese Temple . For Bird watching enthusiasts, a few minutes away is the Hastie Swamp National Park with a bird watching hideA free access, world class Mountain Biking Trail complex is also available on the outskirts of Atherton.
•25 minutes to the Wongabel State Forest with two walking path options, where the rainforest trees are identified and the very lucky may spot the elusive Lumholtz’s Tree Kangaroo
•40 minutes to the Millaa Millaa Waterfalls circuit with three very beautiful waterfalls, accessible by car.
•4o Minutes to the historic tin mining town of Herberton, home to the famous Herberton Historical Village
•55 minutes to Mt Hypipamee an extinct volcanic crater in the rainforest
•40 Minutes to Mount Uncle Distillery, on a working avocado and Banana farm, produces and sells premium liqueurs and spirits, with a café, wood fired pizza oven on beautiful grounds with friendly alpacas, donkeys, goats and peacocks.
•50 minutes to the Mareeba Coffee works a must for coffee lovers featuring all things coffee, a gift shop, restaurant and coffee sales
•60 minutes to Skybury Coffee plantation, a beautiful facility built on Australia’s largest coffee Plantation. Features a cafe, roastery and coffee sales
•60 minutes to the Golden drop winery a working mango farm producing fruit wines and liqueurs
•60 minute drive to the city centre of Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef
•2.5 Hours to the sensational Chillago Caves
There are far too many other places to mention but with our local knowledge, we will be happy to suggest an itinerary that suits your available time and interests and how keen you are to get off the beaten track.
For those keen to experience, the rugged Wilderness of Cape York Peninsula, my Husband Vit has 15 years of experience travelling in the peninsula working with Aboriginal Communities and he’s only too happy to share his knowledge and favourite places. Tinaroo Lake House would be an ideal opportunity to experience some luxury before you head off and after you return from your adventure.

For Bird watchers, the Atherton Tablelands are one of Australia's richest areas with 370 species with 9 endemic to the Tablelands and 3 others to the wet tropics. These include: Tooth-Billed & Golden bowerbirds, Bridled Honeyeaters, Fern Wren,Atherton Scrubwren, Mountain Thornbill, Grey Headed Robin, Chowchilla, Bower's Shrike-Thrush, Macleay's Honeyeaters, Victoria's Riflebird and the Pied Monarch. There are at least 10 other birds with sub-species restricted to the wet Tropics. Aside from the birds available on or immediately adjacent to our property, (102 species recorded in the past 4 months), there are excellent sites nearby at:
Lake Eacham and Lake Barrine Crater Lakes National Parks, (Rain-forest a water birds), (10 minutes)
Wooroonoonan National Park and Gourka Road, (Blue-Faced Parrot-Finch) and Numerous rain-forest species, (30 minutes)
Bromfield Swamp for seasonal Saurus Cranes and Brolgas, (July to November), (30 minutes)
Curtain Fig State Forest, (20 minutes)
Danbulla State Forest Drive a wide range of rain-forest, water and grass birds, 15 minutes
Hasties Swamp National Park, with a two storey hide, view water birds and raptors as well as numerous other species, (30 minutes)
Wongabel State Forest for numerous rain-forest species
Mt Hypipamee, (The Crater)' National Park, rain-forest species including Golden Bower-bird, 40 minutes
A little further away are excellent sites around Cairns, (1 hour), Julatten & Mt Lewis, (90 minutes)

In addition to birds, platypus, (one usually seen on the property), tree climbing Kangaroos, and Boyd's Forest Dragon along with many other species are found in this spectacular area.

We highly recommend a minimum of two days or preferably three plus days to see and experience the amazing landscapes, mountains, lakes, waterfalls, food trails, walking tracks and wildlife the Tablelands have to offer.

We are very responsive to our guests wishes for privacy also, so the level of interaction will be determined by you. The layout of the house provides two distinct areas for the hosts and the guests with the deck potentially a common area to come together.
