This is the perfect beach for a romantic getaway. With a gorgeous view of the sea for the large garden terrace and the comfy king size bed.

Swim in the warm crystal clear waters and snorkel out to the coral reef, read a book under my palapa, or just relax by the pool.

Fall asleep to the sound of gentle waves in your king-size bed with luxury linens.

Read a book in the hammock or lounge chair on the large terrace.

This studio apartment has a very large renovated terrace with gorgeous Mexican tile and huge planters, and an incredible view of the sea and the condo pool.

Small Kitchenette is equipped with a full size refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, coffee/tea kettle. and a small electric grill ( for outside use only)

I have another unit that has a full kitchen, and 2 terraces. Check out my other listing called "Penthouse Paradise With Ocean Views from 2 Terraces"

Snorkel straight out to the Mesoamerican coral reef or just relax by the pool or in the shade of a palapa.

Swim with turtles of Akumal Bay. They swim free...and so can you in the crystal clear Caribbean.

Our complex is next (and kind of in) Sunscape Akumal Beach Resort. It is a bit difficult to explain but the resort grew and bought many of the condos. I can't guarantee anything at the hotel because their staff and rules change often. But sometimes day passes can be purchased and costs 1200 pesos, around $60usd last time I checked. It includes all meals and drinks from 9am to 6pm and includes use of all their facilities like multiple pools with day beds, various restaurants, spa, gym and activities like yoga classes, beach sports, snorkeling, children's area and much more. Again, sometimes you can pay per meal at one of 8 resturants. Meals include appetizers, salad bar, entree, desert bar unlimited drinks and a show afterward. Prices vary and I have no control over the hotel changing its policy.

Personally, I prefer the Beached Bikini Bar and Grill and the Villa de Rosa Restaurant which are both a 2 minute walk down the beach and both have very good food. The Caribbean Cevice at the Beached Bikini is awesome and has mango and avocado in it. It is a local favorite bar with its swings, laid back style and awesome coco loco drink served in a coconut. Beach bars are becoming rare in this day of big all inclusive resorts. Another good one is in Akumal a 5 minute taxi or collective ride north called La Buena Vida. They have swings and Hammocks.

My place is great for couples, solo adventurers, and beach bums.

Este apartamento tipo estudio tiene una cama king, una gran terraza y está equipado con nevera, microondas y cafetera / tetera.. Echa un vistazo a mi otro listado llamado "Ático Penthouse con vistas al mar desde 2 terrazas"

Quintana Roo, Mexiko

Akumal Puebla, 5 minutes north has been transformed overnight during the first annual Arts festival which took place in November, 2018. Over 85 mural and street artists from all over the work came and created amazing murals on all sides of the Bridge and through out the pueblo. I was honored to be the official tour guide of the festival and meet the artists and know all the symbolism and meaning behind these massive works. I have continued doing the tours and an Airbnb Experience https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/379974

I have so much fun sharing the Arts Festivals dream of making it an annual event to bring tourist dollars from the beach over to the small local businesses. You can get some of the best chicken mole I have ever had from a tiny local restaurant or a great smoothie for ridiculously cheap. Or check out the farmers market and try the local honey.

Akumal Beach has several great restaurants likeThe Turtle Bay Cafe and Bakery Lunita, La Cueva del Pescador, Lol-ha , La Taverna and my favorite Buena Vida.

Chemuyil is 5 minutes south and also has 3 good restaraunts, Leos Pizza, (they deliver), La Palapas and Aricefe

The best way to explore the reef is to go straight out in front of the condo and swim toward 11 o'clock or slightly to you left.
This will be the shortest distance to the reef and you will be swimming slightly against the current. I advise wearing fins or water shoes. Another good place for snorkeling in calm waters is Yal Ku Lagoon in North Akumal.

Swimming with Turtles in Akumal Beach
The government stops all tours to see/swim with the turtles during the months of February and April to give the turtles a break, because the grass they eat is getting destroyed by fins and they are getting sick from sunscreen. You may be stopped driving in by tour vendors who tell you you have to go with a guide. Not true. Just park and enter the public beach where you pay a small fee to enter, that goes to protect the turtles. Please wear reef safe sunscreen whenever you get in the ocean.
Short fins and life jackets may be required.

Walk south down the beach 5 minutes and you will come to a great massage tent. Norma and Josette give a great massage for $50 USD. Tell them Joan sent you.

Grocery stores:
There are 2 small grocery stores in Akumal Beach, 5 minutes north. There is also an XOXO, (7-11), a small drug store and ATMs. The ATM that is outside on the right gives dollars and the one inside the grocery on the left gives pesos.
The selection is limited but you can get the basics.

About 15 minutes north in Puerto Aventuras, or 15 south in Tulum there are large grocery stores called Chedraui. They also sell all kinds of other stuff. It is less expensive and has a greater selection than in Akumal. It is customary to give a small tip to the person who bags your groceries. Feel free to use the condiments in the fridge. Replace if you use them up, please.

There is no public laundry in our complex. There are 2 lavanderias in Akumal Pueblo on the west side of the Highway that you can drop your off laundry and pick it up the next afternoon, and one in Chemuyil, just south.

There are several good restaurants in Akumal Beach like Turtle Bay Cafe, Lol Ha on the beach, and La Pescador for fresh seafood. But my favorites are La Buena Vida because they have hammocks and La Lunita where they have great lobster. The last 2 are in North Akumal.  Left after the arch and all the way up toward Yal Ku Bay.

Don’t be hesitant to explore Akumal Pueblo, the jungle side of the highway. It may not be as polished and touristy as Akumal Beach but is perfectly safe and you can get great local food from the restaurants for next to nothing. In season they have live music on Wednesdays at Tequilaville. For example: 3 tacos and a beer or half a chicken, rice and beans, for $5. There you can explore the many murals on the bridge and surrounding houses. This is were I go to eat. There is a cute new Restaurant called Freedom Garden that is an outdoor Barbecue and has a real Tulum vibe.

Chemuyil is about 5 minutes south on the west side of the highway and has 3 good and inexpensive restaurants, La Palapa, Aricife and Leo’s Pizza, (the only place that will deliver.) There is also a small market and hardware store.

My favorite new thing is to visit the IK LAB which is a very cool art gallery inside the eco resort Azulik. It’s the brain child of Santiago Guggenheim, (yes, that Guggenheim) and defies description. Trust me, just go to the gallery and boutique at Azulik. Pricey, but cool to see the stream running through it.

Other Places to Explore:
Puerto Aventuras is a fun little place to explore. There are hotels, but it is more of a gated community. You can visit the shops and restaurants that ring the dolphinarium. You have to show your license with the security guards at the gate and tell them you are going to the restaurants. During season my boyfriend and I play at Cafe Ole’ on Saturday nights from 7-10pm.

Playa Del Carmen is fun for a day of shopping and strolling on the pedestrian street, 5th Avenue. There are all kinds of shops, restaurants and bars from touristy to high end. Going one block west on any side street you will find great little local restaurants and shops, much cheaper than on 5th ave. There are also 3 malls, a Walmart and a Home Depot in Playa del Carmen. You can catch the ferry to Cozumel here.

Of course the Mayan Ruins of Tulum are a must see. Go early and hire a guide. You will get so much more out of it. Also take a towel and swim suit because there is a cute little beach there too.
There are lots of nice beach clubs and shops down along the Beach Road. Turn left at the Coba Road and keep going right. I like the salsa dancing on Sunday nights at La Zebra from 7-9pm.
To go to the Ruins of Coba, take a right on the Coba Road, then about 45 minutes west from Tulum. They are a bit further but the only ruins that you can still climb on. I also recommend getting a guide and renting a bike while there.

There are many Cenotes up and down the highway. Dos Ojos is about 10 minutes south. It is great and they have several cenotes and a cute little museum that is very interesting. But it can be very crowded. My new favorite is a few more minutes south called Lab NaHa which is less crowded.

Of the big eco theme parks, I have been to Xel Ha, Xplor and Xcaret. They are a little pricey but a fun day with many different activities.
