My aim is to offer lone female travelers a safe place to stay in Brighton. I do not host males or couples. No exceptions made.

Check in 3-8pm / checkout by 11am.

I live in an area of Brighton known locally as Bear Mountain. My house is an invigorating walk uphill, or you can get here by bus or taxi.

My next door neighbours currently have three cats. They like to sunbathe in my garden. If you are a cat lover, this is the place for you.

Prostor
On offer is a north-facing bedroom, overlooking the street - it’s on the first floor of my hundred-years old house. It has a king-size bed, and a double wardrobe with curtained recesses. The floorboards are painted white.

There is a foldaway table and chairs in the wardrobe, which you can use if you need workspace.

Please note this is my home so I do not have locks on my internal doors. However, I would never access the room without speaking to a guest first. The only exception to this promise is in case of emergency or if I believe that someone might be unwell.

The mezzanine bathroom you would be using is down a flight of eight steps from the bedroom. This is listed as shared because I (or the occasional guest) might use the toilet during the day. However, there will be no one else sleeping on this floor. The shower is all yours at any time - no baths please. The only time I will have to come down to this bathroom in the morning is if I have problems with the en-suite to my room. The toilet has a saniflo engine which has been known to go wrong, or the top floor pipes might freeze in winter.

I want my guests to visit me and have a good time, doing whatever makes them feel good. If you want to go out to a gig or club and come back late, fine! That’s my kind of lifestyle too. Just don’t be noisy when you come in - respect the neighbours please. I get on well with them, and want to keep it that way.

As I have mentioned, I have visiting cats - I may even have one or two staying with me. They are not allowed in the guest room.

I do not allow smoking or vaping anywhere in my house, please do not book if you can’t stick to this.

Přístup pro hosty
I have superfast BT fibre optic broadband.

I do not offer kitchen usage or cooking facilities. I supply everything you need to make a hot drink in the room. There is also a mini fridge for your use.

I am happy for guests to order a takeaway or bring food in and eat it at the dining room table if they wish.

I am out all day for work at times, so I cannot always accept left luggage in the house. I recommend Cafe Mojo at 23 Queens Road, (on the right as you walk away from Brighton Station) for short term storage. It could be better for you to use this facility rather than having to waste time traveling out to my house, to drop or collect your bags.

Další věci, které stojí za zmínku
I’ll just remind you again that I live up a hill. My home was built a long time ago. Sorry it’s not very safe or accessible for children, or people with limited mobility. It has steep, narrow staircases to the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen with no handrails. The front doorway is also narrow.

If you happen to have Ornithophobia (fear of birds) my place is not for you. Like many of my neighbours I get seagulls nesting on the roof, and the babies fly down into the garden. By August they should have dispersed, but the noise is year round! I also have big slow worms (a legless lizard that looks like a snake) in the garden.

If you see that a specific date on my calendar is not available, contact me. This may be because I am out all day, and am unable to check you in or out. If you want to stay for a few days including the blocked one, we may be able to make it work.

I believe the accommodation and facilities I am offering are suited to short term guests, so I have marked the maximum number of days a guest can stay as fourteen. I am open to longer stayers - please message me.

The City of Brighton and Hove, Anglie, Spojené království

I live in an area locally as Bear Mountain. It is a safe, friendly neighbourhood near to Brighton University. It takes 10-15 minutes to walk to the campus via Lewes Road. The University of Sussex at Falmer is a short bus ride away.

The local community is very mixed. My neighbours are very kind - they help, and look out for one another. There are lots of families living roundabout as well as students. I have met older residents who have been in the area for fifty years or more.

There are some cheap restaurants and takeaways down on Lewes Road, and a large branch of Sainsbury’s. There is also a Co-Op supermarket close by, along with some family run, independent food shops.

You can find cashpoints in Sainsbury’s and outside the Co-Op, and at the small Marks and Spencers situated in the garage by Sainsbury’s.

I'm a world travelled ex-backpacker from London, who has lived and worked in quite a few countries and visited many more. These days, I'm trying to see a bit more of the UK when I have the time. In early 2018 I left London to settle in Brighton. Currently, I’m in the process of sorting out my house, and am still in chaos. I’m situated in the university area, it takes me around 20 - 30 minutes to walk into the centre of town. I'm a trained chef. Although I left the industry about ten years ago, I am still very interested in food and drink and am enjoying visiting some of the many restaurants in Brighton. I also love to cook at home. I had many other jobs when I was travelling, including as a chambermaid in a hotel in Israel. If I finished my round quickly, I had the habit of spreading a clean sheet on a bed and having a nap. One day a guest checked in early and caught me out. Luckily he saw the funny side of it, and asked if I came included in the price of the room, or if I cost extra! I’ve also worked on farms, and diving boats. These days I work as a market researcher, which is hard at times, but can be very rewarding. I meet some lovely people at times. I’m very into live music and DJ sets and am enjoying Brighton’s nightlife. I’m also a big fan of the meetup site, and am managing to make some new friends here. I love all animals, especially cats. A friend told me that I attract them, and this probably true. They come in the house uninvited and follow me home. I’ve even woken up with a neighbour’s cat on the bed with me, after coming in late at night. I do not have any pets of my own at present, although I plan to change this at some point in the future. I have moved up into the attic room. Sorry about this, I know many of my guests are returning because they love the view from the top of the house so much. I will be using the room below for Airbnb. This is because I have a few issues with the Saniflo toilet, which has meant that a few guests have had to come downstairs to use the bathroom. The advertisement lists the room as ensuite, so obviously this isn’t fair. I have just had the machine replaced at a cost of £800. However, they do seem to be delicate things. In future if something goes wrong, it will only be me that is inconvenienced. I’m very friendly and like to think I’m approachable. If you feel like a chat or need help during your stay, just ask. If you prefer to have privacy I will respect this. Some thoughts on Airbnb and guest expectations. The first thing that springs to mind is that some guests who come here, do not go beyond reading a couple of reviews before deciding to request to book. In one case I had a lady here who had a cat phobia. The next door neighbours have six, and they are always all over my garden. Another was surprised at the hill up to my house. I mention both these things in the property description. If they had just read it, their discomfort could have been avoided. Another major difference is that some guests think that airbnb accommodation is going to be at five star hotel standard. My take on this is that you are staying in people’s homes, so while they shouldn’t be filthy there is going to be some wear and tear. Public or private feedback which is constructive is always welcome, and much appreciated. I read all my reviews and act on your comments and suggestions. However, the one area that comes in for more flak than anywhere else is the kitchen, which I acknowledge needs updating. For example, the cupboards’ veneers and door handles are tatty - but to a recent guest this equated to them being “sticky.” It seems to me that no matter how much attention I pay to cleanliness, the area will never be sanitized enough for some guests. To be fair this may be due to the current pandemic. For this reason, I no longer offer breakfast, kitchen usage, cooking or free use of the washing machine. If you want a modern kitchen to yourself then book an entire place and pay the increased cost for it. Mine is a working kitchen and I use it. If I disagree with your ratings or comments, it is my policy to do so in my response to your review. I won’t be embarrassed to share a low rating, or any negative private feedback I think is unjustified. It is not only my prospective guests who will see this. Your future hosts may also look at previous reviews you’ve written with any replies, when deciding whether to accept a booking from you. Hotels offer 24 hour reception service, most airbnb hosts do not. I work outside the home at times, so cannot always be flexible about check in. Therefore I need some indication of what time you plan to come, when you book. If you want to change your arrival time, don’t just assume I am able to agree to this and be here to welcome you. Hotels charge guests to check in before 3pm or check out after 11pm - so do I. I do understand that flights are delayed but please let me know if this happens. Even better give me your flight number when you book. I have my cancellation policy set to moderate, but it seems to me that very few people read the details. Too many guests travel without insurance - it’s a false economy. Even worse, some of them try and pass on some of their financial loss to me when stuff happens with their Easyjet or Ryanair flights! I WILL NOT give discretionary refunds for unused nights if your flight is cancelled or delayed. It’s not fair or ethical to expect this of hosts, or to leave them a bad review out of spite when they refuse. Get travel insurance before you leave home. You’re mad if you don’t - losing the cost of a night’s accommodation could be the least of your worries. However, if things change or go wrong, and a guest wants to move a booking by a day or more, I will always agree to this if my calendar is open. Airbnb can override my cancellation policy if a guest can supply proof of certain extenuating circumstances. If you think yours qualify, I am happy to take the matter to Airbnb and let them make the decision. Airbnb forbid hosts to accept cash payments - I won’t under any circumstances. If things go wrong Airbnb won’t get involved, and my house insurance is invalid. Even if you can get a host to do this, Airbnb won’t want to know about any problems that occur if they haven’t had their share of your money! Finally, all women are welcome in my home no matter what color you are, or where you are from. I don’t care about your sexuality. So far I have had 25 different nationalities here, and would like to have someone stay from every county in the world! I look forward to meeting you.

I’m very friendly and I want to make you feel welcome, while respecting your privacy.

You will have solitude if you require it.

I am happy to give help and advice on the local area, but as I have not lived in Brighton that long, I don’t know much about it yet. We can always go online to find out any information you might need.

I prefer not to allow prospective guests to instant book. I have the Airbnb app on my phone, so will see and respond to messages very quickly.
