Prostor
The attention to detail, the choice of fabrics, the restoration of furniture and furnishings have brought this 50 square meter two-room apartment to the center of OSTUNI to its former glory.
Wealth, beauty, solidity, three attributes that best define a material that has made, and continues to make, the history of a place, the white stone of Ostuni painted with white lime.
This is the main component of the Holiday House BIANCOAMORE OSTUNI.
Upon entering You will realize the surreal light, intense, sometimes violent, which invests you in every corner of the house is mostly due to this type of stone.
Another characteristic is the 3 vaults of a carriage and the alcove.
The vault in crap or in the sky of a carriage is used to cover rectangular rooms. It consists of a central rectangular flat part surrounded by four half-barrel vaults set on the central part of the four sides of the perimeter and by four pavilion vaults set at the four corners of the base rectangle.
The alcove, instead, is that part of the room with the Vintage white wooden bridge double bed.
The alcove is separated by an arch and closed by an elegant linen curtain.
In southern Italy and in the provinces of Lecce in Brindisi, the roof was often used for the lack of wood, a material widely used in other regions, in historic buildings, both for flat roofs and roofs. The abundance of limestone, present in many workable varieties, has therefore contributed substantially to the spread of this building structure. In Salento the boom of the vaulted ceilings, the barrel vaults and the vaulted ceilings of the carriage can be placed between 1600 and 1700. Previously, the roofs of noble houses were made of tiled or through reeds. Then an earthquake in 1743 destroyed most of the roofs, and so later they built vaulted rooms, much more resistant.
Even today you can admire the artisans at work in their workshops scattered throughout the Salento area, where stone and carparo working is a sap of discrete importance for the local economy.
Colorful shades of white light up the walls and surfaces of furniture and furnishings, giving here and there a game of joyful tones.
With us the past is a welcome guest!
The motivation of Ostuni's white? One reason continues to exist despite the passing of the centuries. From around 1800, the municipality of Ostuni issued an ordinance that obliges all the inhabitants to paint the houses in the historic center in white. It is not an obligation dictated by vanity or to arouse the amazement of tourists in seeing this particularity, but it is a simple hygienic purpose. In the same year of the order, Ostuni was struck by a long period of drought that caused epidemics and famines. The inhabitants themselves had the idea of painting their houses with lime to avoid infection of any kind of infection and disease.
This belief, among other things founded, causes lime to be cast today. Large stones sealed in sacks are placed in the city wells to purify the collected rainwater. In short, the ancient inhabitants of Ostuni had seen us along. The particularity of the white houses of the historic center is not only enchanting to admire, but also favors the health of the city and consequently of the multitude of tourists who come from everywhere.
Every visitor has a different conception: the writer Tonino Guerra in 2010 defined Ostuni as a drop of milk on the breast of the Apennines. And again the journalist Ettore Della Giovanna in August 1941, passing by Ostuni, was enchanted by the vision of this natural spectacle defining it as the white city up to the absurd. An expanse of lime, chalk powder and milk.
Milk, white like mozzarella, like cheese and like the burrata of Ostuni that add to the list of things to try if you decide to visit this enchanted city.
The streets always crowded with people ready to appear typical products and memories to give to friends and relatives once at home, every symbol of the city, every single souvenir can only bring back the typical milk-white houses placed gently against the sky background.
Antique furniture and salvaged objects wisely restored furnish the Holiday Apartment BIANCOAMORE OSTUNI making it unique, intimate and welcoming.

Kde se ubytování nachází

Ostuni, Puglia, Italy, Itálie

Our journey up and down Puglia is about to begin.
Where did we end up this time? Natural, in Ostuni!
A fundamental stage of Apulian tourism, a desired destination for all the peoples of the earth.
Its fame is international, its outskirts sprinkled with farms, the ancient fortified dwellings of landowners, which today are often luxury accommodations.
It stands on three hills 250 m above sea level. Arriving by car is not a problem, given the different parking facilities available. We got out of the car and wondered: will it really be so beautiful?
Its ancient name is Astunium, "new city".
We are in the Valle d’Itria, more precisely in the province of Brindisi. From anywhere you approach the city, to get there you have to parade through ancient olive trees, which preserve the lightness of history in the weight of their years. But what has Ostuni so special about? Flat roofs to collect the rain and be able to store it to cope with periods of drought, small windows to let the heat of the sun out as much as possible, but above all ... the white! White, white, white. White walls, white steps, white windows, white stone flooring, white water drains, white cornices, white vases. Is it for this reason that the white city is defined? What do you think?
The historic center, the oldest part, is called "the earth" by the inhabitants.

Having overcome the great obstacle of the obvious with some difficulty, we discover why everything is white.
To find the main reason we have to go back in time, until 1600, when Ostuni was brought to its knees by a plague epidemic. Here the lime carried out the important function of natural disinfectant which, according to historians, prevented the epidemic from spreading further.
The following reasons are various: in the first place, white illuminates the narrow alleys of the historical center better and in addition the light color better defends from the heat of the sun storing less. Another reason is of a practical nature, namely the low cost of lime, which covered the entire walls of the historic city center in the Middle Ages.

If we said we came here for the wonders of the Cathedral of Santa Maria dell'Assunzione we would be candidates for the next Oscars for the interpretation of Pinocchio. But a small note is a must, because there are things to know absolutely. Meanwhile, the Cathedral stands on the highest hill (and within walking distance there is a beautiful lookout). The style is late Gothic and its construction dates back to the fifteenth century.
One particularity, however, stands out above all: like the head of Christ on the cross, the apse is also slightly inclined to the left with respect to the central nave, deliberately.
The Aragonese walls surround the city to protect it. In ancient times they had five entrances, today only two, Porta Nova and Porta San Demetrio. Even the sea of Ostuni, 6 km away, has been awarded the Blue Flag for years, and five Legambiente sails for the cleaning of its waters. Still not enough? There is another thing that makes the so-called "white city" so special ...

It's the breathtaking view. Each window dominates the territory of the Valle d’Itria. Every glimpse is a glimpse into the infinite expanse of olive trees. Any lookout is a broad view of the countryside below.
The horizon is lost far away, in strict silence, while the crowd of tourists travels through its narrow streets and, in many cases, even steep ones. Whether you've decided to come here for a simple visit, to discover the local cuisine, or simply because let's face it, going to Puglia is fashionable, the watchword in Ostuni is to get lost. Getting lost in the alleys, the alleys. Follow the detail, look for the most characteristic passage. Turn, walk through it, stop to buy some oil or taste some wine, then go back, look for a lookout, fall in love with a stairway for a flowery slice.
