“Discovery Park is a 534 acre natural area park operated by the Seattle Parks and Recreation. It is the largest city park in Seattle, and occupies most of the former Fort Lawton site. The site is one of breathtaking majesty. Situated on Magnolia Bluff overlooking Puget Sound, Discovery Park offers spectacular view of both the Cascade and the Olympic Mountain ranges. The secluded site includes two miles of protected tidal beaches as well as open meadow lands, dramatic sea cliffs, forest groves, active sand dunes, thickets and streams. The role of Discovery Park is to provide an open space of quiet and tranquility away from the stress and activity of the city, a sanctuary for wildlife, as well ”

“The perfect short hike to get lost in nature while still in the city. You will feel immersed in the beauty that Washington state has to offer. Best of all it leads right over to Alki beach where you can walk along the water and possibly see some of our local sea critters! ”

“You can walk, run or ride bikes on this trail, which winds along the ship canal and Lake Union. Pick it up right down the hill from us in Fremont and take it – if you’re feeling energetic (it’s just 2 ½ miles) -- all the way to the University of Washington and walk around the gorgeous campus!”

“Look up the map to this trail great for walking, running and especially biking. It goes from beyond the beaches on Lake Washington at Magnuson Park (where there is an off leash dog park, boat ramps too) all the way to Ballard. It runs along a lot of water areas with stunning views of downtown and peaks into different neighborhoods. Start at Gas Works Park and follow the trail through Fremont to Ballard. Or go the opposite direction all the way to Magnuson Park!”

“More than a park as it is a wildlife habitat right in the city. Many species of birds visit this area as it offers meadow, woods, ponds and beach. If you are looking for low energy output but want to be out in nature but don't want to drive out of the city, this is a perfect place for you. You will say hello to osprey, bald eagles, warblers, woodpeckers, finches, grebes, and a variety of ducks and innumerable other winged visitors to the area. ”
