Pyschedelic Mushroom Growing in Seattle
This truly "only in Seattle" experience teaches how to grow your own psychedelic mushrooms from low cost supplies using a method you can easily replicate in your own home, wherever you live. Please plan to bring four pint sized mason jars with lids and rings. I can describe them in more detail after you book. I provide all other supplies. We'll talk about the evolutionary history of fungus, how different cultures have used and valued psychedelic experiences, and the entheogenic health movement. I leave time for questions, and do my best to customize this experience for you. At the end of this 2.5-3 hour class, you'll leave with your own custom mushroom grow, and instruction on how to start your own tiny psychedelic mushroom farm. I have a unique background as a forager and published health researcher. I bring a unique mixture of knowledge on health, ecology, and mycology. Teaching my first hundred students in my apartment for this class has been a joy. I hope you'll join me soon! Notes: I have two cats, and live up three flights of stairs. I ask that you test for COVID before attending.

Edible Seattle Tour, Capitol Hill to U District
Experience stars at 12:45 and 8:45, not the times listed! This tour of Capitol Hill will equip you with the knowledge and skills to find your own edible plants in almost any urban environment. Starting at Black Hole Sun in Volunteer park, I will guide you through one of the prettiest neighborhoods in the city. I'll teach you about best practices in foraging, acknowledge the indigenous stewards of the land, and help you identify some of the most common plants that you can harvest on your own. Along the way, we'll talk about the unusual geology that makes Seattle what it is, spy on street cats, and cover some of Seattle's strangest history. Every attendees leaves this trip with a handful (or more!) of something wonderful we've found along the way. Depending on the season, it could be fir tips, feral apples, herbs, flowers, or nuts. While I am not an herbalist, chef, or doctor, I'm happy to share ideas for preparing what you find, and traditional uses for herbs we come across.
Mad Scientist Drink Fusion Lab, A Mocktail Focused Workshop
lab·o·ra·to·ry | \ ˈla-b(ə-)rə-ˌtȯr-ē Definition, broadly : a place providing opportunity for experimentation, observation, or practice in a field of study. Unconventional workshop; not a class. This is an ever-changing and high concept drink fusion playground (aka. laboratory) for those with 0 to 100 levels of experience. This particular lab is experimenting with non-alcoholic drinks, aka. mocktails. For those who prefer alcohol and/or cocktail lessons, please see the other lab I host: the 'Mad Scientist Cocktail + Mocktail lab". This particular drink fusion laboratory allows us to more easily accommodate ages under 21, and focus on fun alternative libations to liquor, wine and beer. I will begin the lab by introducing you to all the tools and ingredients available. Multiple printed recipes will offer a starting point, and as you take off on your own concocting direction, I will be present to offer guidance and answer questions. By design, any awkwardness and negative judgement is kicked out the door in order for the madness to ensue! Curiosity is MOST welcome in this class: please ask away. Please message me with any dietary needs/preferences. We do gift certificates too -- message us for details.
Street Food Tour of South Lake Union
Get off the beaten path to experience the heart of Seattle’s tech center through the lens of a culinary walking tour. Over the last decade, this historical neighborhood has become home to the expansive Amazon and Google campuses—and, consequently, a vibrant street food scene that beckons both tech denizens and Seattleites who crave some of the city’s best noshes—from hand-rolled sourdough bagels at Rubinstein to Korean-Hawaiian fusion Marination to perfectly a balanced beverage from Rachel’s Ginger Beer to Middle Eastern mezze at Mamnoon Street. We stop at six different locations in South Lake Union for tastings and stories behind the distinctive local businesses—with the opportunity to explore the outside of the famous Amazon Spheres. Bring your appetites and walking shoes (no coding required!). Please message us in advance with any dietary restrictions as we can't accommodate if we learn day-of. This does include a fair amount of walking and requires a medium amount of physical fitness.
Seattle Rainforest and Waterfall Hike
An adventurous hike with waterfalls and vistas at nearly every turn. We'll pick you up direct from your Airbnb or hotel in Seattle and then head towards the Cascade mountains where we'll find a fairy's playground of roaring waterfalls and green valleys. Wallace Falls comprises three different waterfalls along the main fork of the Wallace River. The trail is moderate with rocks and roots, but a safe trail with rails to protect from falls and no narrow ledges or trail drop offs. Round trip is 6 miles. We'll have lunch at hiker's choice of the lower, middle or upper falls. Note: pickup location says Starbuck’s but we actually pick up direct from your Airbnb, hotel . We follow all state health guidelines and those safety policies in place at WA State Parks. Additionally, we limit our group size to no more than three people plus guide. Check @_adventuresinseattle on Instagram for more photos!
Epic Hike on Mt Rainier
We'll journey from downtown Seattle to Sunrise Visitor's Center on the North side of Mount Rainier. From there we'll put on our hiking shoes and tackle the Three Burroughs Trail - the prettiest trail on Mount Rainier with the epic views of the mountain. Burroughs Mountain has been described as a mountain against a mountain. At over 7800 feet, Burroughs Mountain sets right up against the northeastern face of Mount Rainier, hugging the Winthrop Glacier. It offers one of the most dramatic views of Washington's largest volcano. The hike is moderate to challenging with options to turn around at 4 and 6 miles making this the perfect option for those that want to push beyond the crowds but question their own limitations and abilities. This is YOUR hike, and we'll push as far as you are comfortable. But trust me, the views are worth it. There is no technical climbing and those in moderate to fit condition will find this hike to be both challenging and rewarding. You don't need special gear or prior experience - just an adventurous spirit! Availability: if you don't see a date offered that you are interested in, please reach out. We may be able to work with your travel plans. Note: Covid impacted our operations significantly, so you may see a gap in reviews while operations were suspended. We also offer snowshoe trips in the winter so you'll see a mix of reviews!
