At high tide, the beach is a narrow strip at the head of the inlet but at low tide the harbour is completely dry with the exception of a stream that runs down the middle of the harbour, providing hours of entertainment catching fish, shrimp and crabs. If you head down the beach towards the mouth of the inlet a large stretch of sand is revealed with plenty of rock pools and caves to explore. The bathing here is very shallow and very good for small children. Running parallel to Solva, on the other side of the ridge is another narrow valley, which ends up at an idyllic little pebble beach. Both these valleys are meltwater valleys created during the last ice age. If you’re planning to visit, check out the tide times to make sure you’ve plenty of beach to play on and that you don’t get cut off by the incoming tide! Sample the local sea food at the pubs and restaurants. Hatts and Barrels is a new restaurant. 35 Cafe on the Harbour or the Cambrian are very good places to eat. MamGu is a place we’re you can purchase homemade Welsh cakes. Towards the top end of Solva you will find Mrs Wills who sells fresh fish. Just along from here you can purchase Honey from the Little Bee House. Then you must pop into Window on Wales Shop. With numerous floors, a real shopaholics dream. From clothes to the ideal presents for yourself or family and friends. St David’s also have this store, but this one is the better one of the two as it’s much larger spans over about three floors.

The city of St David’s (Ty Ddewi in Welsh) and the surrounding peninsula are situated to the north west of Pembrokeshire, Wales in an area of outstanding natural beauty known as the Pembrokeshire National Park. This beautiful area is a very popular destination with both locals and visitors who come to enjoying some of the most picturesque scenery that this part of Wales has to offer. There are many beaches, the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, hidden coves and villages to discover and of course the City of St David’s and its Cathedral to keep you busy. The city itself (the smallest in the UK) is vibrant and busy with plenty of independent shops, cafe’s, pubs and restaurants to keep you occupied. It is technically the size of a small village with a population of around 2000, however City status was originally granted in 16c and the local people are very proud of this.

Tenby is protected from the outside world by an embrace of 13th-century stone walls, which, ironically, attract, not repel visitors from all over the world. The town is simply adorable, teeming with the archetypes of pubs and shops one would expect to find in a U.K. city. Great place for Fish N Chips! Adding further appeal are the miles of gorgeous beaches and the gently lapping waves of a blue-grey sea. You can get a boat trip from Tenby to Caldey Island, well worth a visit. If only to fetch the local made chocolate which is made on the island.

Saundersfoot has always been a popular destination for families and couples over the years. The village has an increasing reputation as a gourmet resort, thanks to the high quality restaurants and cafes and the local Pembrokeshire produce. Why not visit Sues Pantry Cake Shop... You will stand druelling outside the little bay window looking at the temptation of all the homemade cakes on offer. Also visit Harbour Gift Shop for gifts and holiday memorabilia. For a nice walk why not try walking from Saundersfoot to Wiseman's Bridge passing through the 3 train tunnels. You can also do the Stepaside Iron works and old colliery site walk from Saundersfoot.

Porthgain is a small coastal village on the north coast of St Davids Peninsula. Once a small commercial harbour used for exporting stone from the nearby quarry, Porthgain is now a very popular tourist centre thanks to a great pub The Sloop, The Shed Fish Restaurant and excellent art galleries. Located less than a mile off the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast, Skomer is truly a wonderful place to visit for the day. Well known for its Puffins, yet there is so much more to the bird paradise including Manx Shearwaters, Dolphins, Harbour Porpoises, Atlantic Grey Seal, Razorbills, Gannets, Fulmars and the unique Skomer Vole. The island is surrounded by some of the richest waters for wildlife off the British Isles. During spring the island is covered in a display of beautiful bluebells so vast that the whole island appears blue! No part of the island is spared from this bluebell explosion. A shade of pink is added to the island’s colour during the summer called Campion.

Bosherston Lakes, Lily Ponds, have long been famous for their spectacular display of waterlilies and their resident otters. They're a great place to visit if you want to do a bit of wildlife watching and have a waterfront wander. Walk through the woods round the lakes to Broad Haven South Beach. All part of the National Trust. You can make a day of it and visit St Govans from here. Which is known for the stone chapel built in the rocks.

Well worth a visit, especially for the adrenaline junkies as this place is best known for Coasteering. A former slate quarry, it was formed when the Chanel connecting the quarry to the sea was blasted. Allowing the sea water in. The Blue Lagoon is World Class for water sports. The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series visited first in 2012 then in 2013 and 2016. It’s now popular for organised Coasteering and Kayaking. Or for the faint hearted keep your feet on the ground and go for the cliff top walk instead. You’ll be guaranteed Great Views.

One mile south of St David’s. Sandwiched between towering cliffs. Free parking is available at the top of the beach. You can walk into St David’s from here along the coastal path. Calling into visit St Nons Chapel and Holywell. Which marks the place were St David was born. From here you carry onto St David’s approaching from the Cathedral end. Which gives you a chance to see the Cathedral first and St David’s Bishop palace along side to it. Then wander up past the many shops and eateries.

Amroth is located on the south coast of Pembrokeshire 7 miles east of Tenby and at the start (or end, if you walk it the other way round) of the world renowned 186 mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Also a blue flag beach. There is a petrified drowned forest, which reveals itself when the tide is very low. The petrified tree stumps can be seen poking through the sand and they have been dated to the last ice age!

Neighbourhoods

Roch is a small village located at the centre of St Brides Bay, facing the Atlantic. Its very central location makes it ideal for exploring Pembrokeshire. Why not visit Newgale just a couple of  miles to the beach. The village of Roch now consists largely of modern development, but there has been a settlement here since the 13th Century and the skyline is still dominated by the historic Norman castle (Roch Castle). There is also a pretty 19th Century church in the village. Facilities in the village include: – -Local Pub – The Victoria Inn with microbrewery and restaurant. -Church and Chapel -Children's Playpark and all weather tennis courts (free) At Newgale (1.5 miles away) – Surf Shop, Family friendly Pub, Cafes, General Store. Local bus T11 from Haverfordwest to St Davids and Fishguard. We now have a new bus service that replaces the coastal buses, called fflecsi which is pre bookable to use for walkers.

Shopping

Haverfordwest is the best place for everyday shopping, with two main supermarkets, Morrisons and a Tesco’s Extra,  Aldi, A New Lidl and now a Currys PC World. A new shopping centre to the north of the town has seen the arrival of  Marks & Spencer’s, Next, Sports Direct, Boots, Home Bargains, Mountain Warehouse and TK Maxx. On a Friday a farmers market is held in the square selling local produce food and drink. Further along on the A40 towards Fishguard is a department store called Vincent Davies similar to John Lewis. With a restaurant and garden department, we’ll worth a visit for a bit of retail therapy.
