Food & Sightseeing

Restaurant/Bar recommendations, historical area, scenic view
(Pronounced like “vou-no”) Stop in Lula Bar (only bar in the town center, has red umbrellas) for some local breakfast items, freshly baked bread to take with you, or have a beer at night and watch a football match under the stars. You will see a few stray dogs and cats that hang around Lula, but they are harmless. Walk through the ancient village that the Chaonians (Ancient Greek tribe) used to inhabit during 5th Century B.C. Just 5 minutes walking downhill from Vuno Village along the coastline is Marko Bar, a restaurant run by the family of one of our hosts, offering fresh meat (sourced just below the restaurant), local vegetables from family or neighbor farms, and homemade Raki (traditional Albanian alcohol 40-70%). The restaurant has a great view over the olive groves of Vuno as well as the sea looking over to Italy. You’ll want to watch the sunset from here with dinner and drinks.

Beaches

Hiking, beaches, beach bar/restaurants, coastal exploration, nature, shopping
(Pronounced like “yall-ie”) Take a 45 minute hike or a 10 minute drive to Jale Beach from Shkolla Hostel and enjoy the beautiful blue waters enclosed in this small cove. Surrounded by lots of beach bars, each with their own unique flavor. If your feet are sensitive to small rocks, wear beach shoes/water socks. The sand is made of small, smooth, white pebbles. Beach volleyball is available to play. Boat tours to smaller beaches along the coast are available for hire. Paddle boards, kayaks, and jet skis are available for rent to go to other nearby beaches. Restaurant above Jale beach: Bala Blu, showcasing gorgeous views above the cove and amazing, fresh seafood and wine. Trees give you shade from the hot sun. Just a 5 minute walk from your beach bar and straight up the stairs. Highly recommended during your beach day. Bring your camera. Watch sunset from the beach, not from the restaurant.

(Pronounced like “Jeep-ay”) Cliff jumping, black rock hiking, beach camping, public and private beach access, swim-in caves within the cliffs, snorkeling, fishing. Come by foot, 1,5 hour hike from the hostel, 20 minutes by car, or come directly on the water by boat, by kayak, or by paddle board. Bring snacks & water, or buy from the local food & drink huts on the beach. It is suggested to wear water socks or sandals on the rocks when climbing, as some of them are sharp. Beach consists of small, white, smooth pebbles.
