Kennall Vale is a beautiful woodland with fascinating remnants of its industrial past as a gunpowder factory. Located between Redruth and Penryn, now a nature reserve, the woods around the River Kennall are dotted with old granite ruins.

Beaches

My nearest beach, Portreath is a popular family beach which, like many beaches on the north Cornish coast, attracts surfers and in particular bodyboarders. The beach backs onto the small town offering most facilities including several shops, toilets and cafés.

At low tide Perranporth beach and neighbouring Penhale sands join together to form one of the largest stretches of unbroken sand on the North Coast. At one end is Perranporth, the archetypal beach town with the high street backing on to the sand. Progressing towards Penhale Point an extensive network of sand dunes rise behind the beach. This is a Special Area of Conservation and also home to a buried church.

As a frequent winner of the Blue Flag award Porthtowan beach has all the qualities and amenities one would expect. Good food can be found at the beachside "Blue Bar" and there is a village shop a couple of minutes walk up the road.

The National Trust owned beach of Gunwalloe sits at the base of the Lizard Peninsula. It is a pretty little cove with a good sized stretch of golden sand backed by gently sloping grassy dunes. Perhaps the most notable feature of Gunwalloe beach though, is the little church tucked away at the northern end.

At low tide Godrevy, Gwithian and Hayle beach merge into one long 3 mile beach of golden sands. Godrevy particularly popular with the surfing community. The beach is so vast that it rarely gets crowded.
