On March 4, 1921, Hot Springs was made an official national park by President Woodrow Wilson. Hot Springs National Park has a long and complex history that is as intertwined with the human spirit as it is with the unique factors that create our thermal springs. The land here has been federally protected since 1832, but starting in 1921, when we were made an official national park, our mission grew and we joined the growing list of places that preserve and protect the places and stories of our nation. Looking ahead at our next 100 years, we hope to continue and expand the National Park Service mission to preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources of the National Park Service for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. Whether you are a community member, a visitor, or a virtual explorer, Hot Springs National Park hopes you will experience and connect with a park that has inspired more than 100 years of health, connection, and wellness.

History Andrew H. Hulsey State Fish Hatchery is on the south side of Lake Hamilton in Garland County. It covers 134 acres in the southern edge of the scenic Ouachita Mountains, one mile north of Arkansas Highway 290 and 12 miles south of Hot Springs. It is the second-largest of four warm-water fish hatcheries owned and operated by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Land for the hatchery grounds was donated to the AGFC in 1939 by the late Harvey Couch. Construction of the first 12 ponds and pumping station was completed in 1940, and the first crop of fish was raised at the Lake Hamilton State Fish Hatchery in 1941. Throughout the late 1940s and 1950s, more ponds were constructed on the hatchery grounds. In 1987, the hatchery was renamed Andrew H. Hulsey State Fish Hatchery in honor of former AGFC Director Andrew Hulsey. During the mid-1980s through the early 2000s, the hatchery facilities were renovated and expanded. The hatchery includes 42 earthen ponds, ranging from 0.4 acres to 4 acres, totaling 84.1 acres. All ponds are devoted to continuous production of native and non-native sportfish for stocking public waters throughout Arkansas.

About a 1 1/2 hours from Hot Springs the Park allows you to mine for DIAMONDS! One of the only places in the world where the public can search for real diamonds in their original volcanic source, Crater of Diamonds is a one-of-a-kind experience that brings people from all over the world to Murfreesboro, Arkansas. Visitors to the park search a 37-acre field, the eroded surface of a volcanic crater, for a variety of rocks, minerals, and gemstones – and any rock or mineral you find is yours to keep. You may bring your own mining equipment to search with (no battery-operated or motor-driven mining tools allowed), or rent tools from the park. 870-285-3113 209 State Park Rd Murfreesboro, AR 71958

Farmers Market

121 Orange Street, Hot Springs, AR 71901: 501-262-8049 The market operates year round, with a Main Market season (May through October) on Saturday mornings, 7a until noon and Tuesday evenings or until produce runs out. The Winter Market (November through April), while smaller, operates on Saturday mornings, 9a until noon. Plenty of free parking is available at both the North and South entrances of the Market. During the market, customers form close relationships with the farmers who have grown their food. With the local food and organic food movements growing, the Farmers Market has gained even more popularity as a place to purchase high quality, home-grown produce from people they know and farms they visit. The Market also offers fresh herbs, plants, flowers, eggs, meat products, fresh-baked breads and desserts, local honey, jams, jellies, spreads and so much more! On the last Saturday each month, during the Main Market Season, we invite the community's youth to set up a booth. This allows our youth to sell their own handmade, homemade, and homegrown items alongside the regular vendors to gain experience and be mentored by our valued Farmers & Artisans.
