Corral de la Moreria is known as the "most famous tablao in the world." It is less than a five minute walk away from the apartment, and is one of the best places in Spain to see live flamenco with top international standard artists without losing authenticity. The food is also extremely good and it has a great bar too. It is just opposite la Catedral de la Almudena, and has stunning views at night. Highly recommend! This is one of my favourite places to pop into on the way back home- it's not full of tourists like the Almudena, it's free to go into, usually empty and is the home to some great baroque artwork and an interesting history.

Shopping
La Latina is a unique neighbourhood. You never have to go into a supermarket if you don't want to and know where to go to buy all your essentials.
Mercado de la Cebada is a few minutes away and has brilliant food and wine stalls, fresh fruit, fish, meat, wine, and a great atmosphere. On the weekends there are often parties going on in the day, with people standing at the stalls drinking and eating.

Great, practical little food store that has all the essentials. 1 minute walk from the flat. It has a mini deli with cheese and cured meats and some fresh fruit and veg too.

Drinks & Nightlife
El Viajero is perfect for the summer, it is a beautiful three storied bar on the corner opposite el Mercado de la Cebada. It has a great roof terrace, where you can sit and eat tapas and they make good drinks too. Beautiful views of the Basilica de San Fransisco. Gets very busy on the weekend!

Parks & Nature
Casa de Campo (home also to Templo de Debod) is Madrid's wilder park. You can also visit the Retiro, which is also lovely, but on the weekend, I would recommend going to Casa de Campo where you get much fewer tourists.
Go to Lago, where there are restaurants with terraces around the lake, great for walking, and also the popular outdoor swimming pools where you will find a lot of Spanish people hang out in the summer. If you decide to eat in the restaurants around Lago, remember to ask for the "menu del dia", which sometimes won't be offered to you if you don't speak the language, but is a great deal of two courses, with a drink, bread and dessert or coffee.
