Food Scene

Cafe 176. We call it 'The Postoffice Pizza". It is an old converted Postoffice - quite charming. Fantastic Pizza. Retro feel. You can ask to book the front room (for a group of about 6+) with Bay window and chandelier that looks onto New Town road - great atmosphere. Eclectic environment. Also art studio and sells Tasmanian craft.

Iconic Tasmanian cafe. The brother cafe to J&Mc in Battery Point. Great coffee. Great bread - take your morning walk to here - after your coffee, bring your bread home and get the newspapers across the road on the way back (New Town road newsagent)

Because - beautiful pastries by a French pastry chef by the same name [and a tiny cafe directly opposite]

Daci&Daci is one of the most well-known cafes and bakeries in Hobart, opposite Parliament House. They have recently opened a second premises in New Town, and the French-inspired pastries are to die for, very beautiful. A high-end restaurant setting with attention to detail, but the business model is a cafe. Best recommended to come for breakfast, or coffee & a dessert or a pastry.

Parks & Nature

You simply cannot visit Hobart and not visit Mount Wellington (kunanyi). Any time of the day or night - except if there is heavy fog! Rug up any time of year for this! Bring a drink bottle - you can collect snow melt into it at a spot on the way up - there is a tiny waterfall that intersects the road - but it has a little wall around it - small children can easily step over it. In winter the locals try to see if they can get a snow man on the car bonnet to make it all the way to the beach (Sandy Bay). You can see the fails on some corners! But - a snowball fight on the beach is even worth bringing an eski- to make sure it gets to the beach [this is for under 13's generally :)
