Unless you’re here volunteering or en route to Kidepo Valley National Park, there’s no real reason to visit Gulu. However, it's quite a pleasant stop, with friendly locals, a relaxed feel and nice spots to hang out. The largest town in northern Uganda, it was one of the hardest hit during the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) conflict. It’s a town in transition and, is a sure sign of optimism, restaurants are busy and people are arriving from elsewhere in the country hoping to cash in on the coming boom. And there’s no shortage of wazungus (foreigners) about, with so many NGOs in town. - Lonely Planet

Kidepo is Uganda’s most isolated national park, but the few who make the long journey north through the wild frontier region of Karamoja would agree that it is also the most magnificent, for Kidepo ranks among Africa’s finest wildernesses. This is unspoiled Africa, remote, untouched, unvisited, Africa without the crowds – Experiential Africa at its best. "I have to say that after no less than 18 safaris and having spent no less than a year of my life on safari, Kidepo is simply one of my favorite national parks." - Trip Advisor Review
