EATING AND DRINKING IN CERNOBBIO Restaurants TRATTORIA LA VIGNETTA (6 min walk, straight up from the little Church) My Cousin Tommaso and his wife Daniela run this family restaurant (it is an hotel too). The Menu changes often. Nice outdoor terrace, good wine list. Very good both for lunch (easy menu) or dinner. www.lavignetta.it OSTERIA DEL BEUC (3 min walk) Very local restaurants, with tables inside and outside (both sides of the osteria). At lunchtime they also have the business/easy menu at a very good price. Booking recommended during weekend and holidays. Local food, menu changes often. Very recommended! At times around 6pm you can meet older locals having an aperitivo. Claudia the manager is very organized! IL GIARDINO Restaurant and Pizza (2 min walk) Good restaurant and good pizzeria (take away too), internal patio open in Spring and summer. MIRALAGO (Hotel and Restaurant) (5 minute walk, near the lake shore) nice outside area (just opposite Harry’s Bar) and good Italian food. MATERIA - Michelin star minimalist restaurant in Cernobbio. PIZZERIA ANCORA (5 min by car, 15/20 minute walk, after the Sheraton Hotel). Shabby restaurant, but some say the pizza is great. Not much English spoken. A very local experience, but you may end up smelling like French fries. (the only other dish besides pizza) SHERATON HOTEL - Nice for aperitivo by the pool. HARRY’S BAR - quite pricey, not sure it is worth the effort, but great location. Ideal for aperitivo by the lake. You may bump into some celebs if you care to notice ;) The Clooneys has been spotted there. SPECIALITA’ LARIANE shop and restaurant - small restaurant specialized in lake fish. (20 minutes on foot) in a residential area (not very scenic). Open only on Friday and Saturday evening. Check website for menus and show cooking evenings. VILLA d’ESTE - Restaurants have been deemed “suboptimal” by some of my former guests… it is definitely the posh and expensive choice, but again you can just stroll in for a cocktail by the lake, just walk straight in saying you are heading to the bar for a drink and enjoy the amazing setting. (At times they may bounce visitors who are who are not staying at the hotel). _______________________________________ Restaurants - In Piazza Santo Stefano, a small town up the hill from Cernobbio (5 minute drive) LA SOSTA Restaurant and pizzeria, outside tables and nice stone pizza oven and fireplace inside. They do have a couple of vegan choices too. Il GLICINE (Wisteria flower) posh and refined interiors, nice outdoor terrace (with wisteria). www.trattoriadelglicine.com DELLA TORRE - average, they make pizza too, good quality for a good price. Some tables outside and some tables with a great view of Como and the lake. _______________________________________________ ICE CREAM BAR GEI - (very local bar) Very good Ice cream (in front of the post office. PISTACHIETTO (5 minutes drive on the direction of Switzerland) the place is not in a very lice location, but ice-cream is very good! _________________________________ COFFEE and BREAKFAST in Cernobbio Poletti Pasticceria Pastry&Coffee (2 minute walk) very popular with locals for coffee and Sunday cakes. They do also have a couple of salad dishes for lunch. Outdoor tables too. Gusto Tea room - opposite Poletti. Internal cosy tearoom, coffees and some lunch. __________________________________ Grocery Shopping in Cernobbio La Piazzetta, right outside, after the Church and the wine shop. Ready-made gourmet dishes. But also fresh bread, milk, yogurt and basic food grocery. Kilometro Zero - (5 min walk) in Via Volta. Local farm products and gourmet food. 2 supermarkets: BENNET (shopping centre with very large supermarket) 5 min drive, 20 min on foot Gran Mercato (supermarket) very good quality - 15 minutes on foot, 5 min drive, just after Sheraton Hotel on the way to Como. IN COMO DRINKS / APERITIVO FRESCO COCKTAIL SHOP Viale Lecco, Como. Great cocktails, a tad pricey but quite a cosmopolitan atmosphere. They bring tiny food tasting bites along with the cocktails. Ask for the special. No outside space. VINTAGE Piazza Mazzini, Como. Pedestrian center. BROTHERS near Piazza Volta. A few outside tables, good cocktails. KRUDO Piazza Volta. Outdoors tables in the square. _________________________________ RESTAURANTS IN COMO OSTERIA DEL GALLO - Via Vitani 16 - very local osteria, the menu is not written but the lady owner tells you what they have prepared. Located in a nice cobbled street in the pedestrian area. RISTORANTE SOCIALE - Via Rodari. Local Lake Como dishes, typical foods. Few outside tables. Quite popular with locals. TANA DEL PESCATORE - Fish restaurant. Lunch menu different from evening menu. MOMO - Gourment pizza. Does not accept reservations. Not in the city centre. TIGLI IN THEORIA (Michelin) - quite pricey but not bad! __________________________________ RESTAURANT IN BRUNATE Brunate is the arrival of the funicular from Como (7 minute ride). From here you can start hikes to the Lighthouse or even all the way to Rifugio Riella and even to Bellagio (8 hour hike). Mountain restaurants along the hike trail. Bella Vista - great view of Lake, town and mountains. You can go up with the funicular and just walk 3 minutes! Good local cuisine, very nice to sit by the large windows to see the panorama. Amazing position to see sunset on the Alps.
