Our Top Beer/Food Scenes

This is our favorite local brewery. Our friends, Josh and Jared, are brothers who opened this spot a few years ago. They never brew the same beer twice, which is pretty cool. They do great IPA’s, stouts, and saisons/sours, which are usually in bottles. The great thing about this place is the patio area. It is lined with food trucks and tons of picnic benches and when the sun is out, people flock to this brewery to have a beer outside.

This is a favorite locals' spot!!! Our friend, Dwayne, owns this bottle shop and tap room. He’s been open for almost two years now and is super passionate about beer. The walls are lined with fridges filled with plenty of beer to-go or to have in-house and he has 20 rotating taps from all over. He is trying to become the number one bottle shop in Oregon and has certainly brought in rare beers and tapped beers you can’t find anywhere else. B&T is also pet friendly and is a great locals hang out.

Fort George is an awesome, iconic brewery here in town. They have an amazing tap list and an outdoor patio space where there are sometimes cool events, live music, and a place to play games and bring your pets. They have a separate building, where the beer is brewed, that also has the Lovell Tap Room. The Lovell has more experimental brews and is a cool hang-out and then the restaurant is next door. The upstairs has a yummy pizza menu and the downstairs has awesome burgers and other bar food. Fun place to go and they have an amazing view upstairs of the Columbia River!

Buoy is a neat brewery right on the Riverfront, with front row views of the Columbia River. They have a very open dining room with windows showcasing the river and boats and in the restaurant side, there's a glass-bottom floor where you can see the sea lions lounging underneath (if it's the right season for them to be around!). There's also a bar area with an outdoor patio if you want to sit outside and they allow pets. Our favorite thing to get is the cheese curds (must ask for jalapeño jelly on the side!). Buoy is actually our favorite place to get seafood in town, but they are always running specials that are really good, like unique burgers or pasta dishes.

Our Favorite Bar Scenes

Our friends, Seth and Michael own this newly opened bar, and our favorite bartender, Corey, who is a mixologist works there. It is a very intimate speak-easy style of bar, with leather seats, and a beautifully lined wall of 100+ whiskeys for you to try. The drink menu has an “Old World” menu with whiskey mixed drinks and a “New World” menu with cocktails for the non-whiskey drinkers. Corey’s drinks are amazing—he’s won best bartender on the coast several years in a row! Blaylock’s also has light food menus with charcuterie boards and roasted veggies as our highlights.

This place technically isn't a bar, they are not allowed to serve cocktails. However, the owner will do a tasting with you and "deconstruct" a cocktail, such as a Bloody Mary or a Sazerac and let you taste them individually and then mix them together. Very fun place and the owners are passionate about making their alcohols and vinegars.

Our Favorite Foodie Recommendations

We love BUSU and grateful we have this in town! Kenny is from Kansas City and has been professionally trained in a ramen shop and in Japan. This is a walk-up window that you can eat there or take it to-go. His food is some of the best in town. HIs menu changes daily, based on what is fresh and what he can forrage/find. Most typical menu items that stay on the menu outside of his specials include: Yakisoba noodles, Ominoiaki (Japanese pancakes), Miso soup, pickled veggies. Vegan options are available.

They have an amazing breakfast menu, they have outdoor space for pets, and they also do a pop-up dinner menu, with some of the best dining food and cocktails in town. On Monday nights, they do a Sushi/Martini special, Tuesday nights is Margarita/Taco night, and Thursday is their 5 Buck Burger special. Their menu is unique and a foodie dream--we also love their mixed drinks here! This is our favorite place to eat for dinner.

They have really good coffee (from Stumptown, Portland) and fresh, locally sourced breakfasts and lunches on a neat corner in downtown Astoria! My favorite is the breakfast sandwich, which they make with their own homemade English muffin! They also have a lot of nice pastries. This spot would be my recommendation if you are seeking a culinary hot-spot for breakfast. There's a cute outdoor patio (pet-friendly) and they also will deliver the food to you outside and you can see the water from where you sit. At night, this coffee shop becomes a pop-up restaurant, currently serving a German-style menu.

Must go to Hanthorn Crab Company on the Pier! Tom has the freshest live crabs you will find in the entire area! He is passionate about what he does and is excited to share with you! You can purchase crabs either live or cooked. If you want to try it already cooked, Tom will set you up with crab crackers and all the fixings and sit you out on the docks by the boats and the sea lions and you can have at it! He'll also let you bring your own beer and that just hits the spot right on the docks of the Columbia River! It's right behind Rogue Brewery. Can't miss him! There's also the 135 year old Hanthorn Cannery that you can tour and see the history of his family.

This is a hole-in-the-wall cafe that is popular amongst the locals for breakfast/brunch. Their crepes are really yummy, love the Power Tower veggie-egg meal, and it's also fun to get the "Chef's Mercy" where you leave it to the chef to surprise you and make whatever he wants! Cash or check only.

This place is a unique restaurant and a local favorite! Lots of to-die-for tender, meaty dishes. Our favorites are the stuffed cabbage and the pita (which is not like an pita you've ever had, it's made with the same phyllo dough that is used for the baklava! The chef puts her heart into her cooking and her husband is the face of the dining room. Together they are a must-try!

FISH MONGERS!!! ~ When people ask me where I go to get the best seafood, I always say go to Warrenton/Hammond to Fish Mongers! This place has the best fish tacos I’ve ever eaten in my life! They also have some pretty amazing fish and chips and their add-on shrimp is a must! They are cash-only, and a little out of the way, but worth it. When I’ve had family visit, it becomes a “go there more than once” kind of place!

This is our favorite hike to do in town! It's about 3 miles round trip to the top of the Astoria Column and back. It is a shorter walk if you just decide to go to the giant, old hollowed-out tree and back.

Lots of history there. You can go see the famous 1800's ship wreck remains at the beach and you can find views from a lookout where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean, which is pretty cool! The bunkers you can tour were the United States' first millitary defense from the Japanese during WWII, apart from Hawaii. There are some historical sites that you can learn more about here. There are a ton of really good biking and running trails around here if you are looking for a place to do that! Free to get in! We also love to go here in the evenings, as this is our closet beach (15 minute drive from our house) and get a fire pit going on the beach, which is a popular thing to do here and we also love to go clam digging on the beach here as well, during the low tides earlier in the day.

This is not a typical small town museum. This is a wonderful - and very large - collection of the last 120+ years of working with and in the sea on the NW Oregon coast. Inside the museum are whole fishing boats (not mock ups), Coast Guard Life Boats both past and present, all in realistic settings. There are many items from the past that are displayed with great narratives. Outside the museum is an in-water 1950's lighthouse ship (The Columbia) that is open for viewing (imagine being at anchor 7 miles off-shore the Columbia river mouth for 10 day tours. In all weather).
