Media City, Salford Quays
What - Salford Quays? Yes, that's right - in fact, it's probably worth a three-day visit as there is so much to do and see. This place has certainly come a long way since its opening in 1894. For many years the docks were the busiest in the UK and one of the busiest in the world as hundreds of freight ships travelled along the Manchester Ship Canal from Liverpool. At its' height, the quays/docks were servicing 20m tonnes of freight a year before falling into disrepair in the 1970s as a result of de-industrialisation.

The BBC moved its operation to a purpose-built centre in the Quays in 2011 to sit alongside their counterparts at ITV and have since become a vital part of the Media focus of the area. The nearby universities have also become renown for their expertise in media studies.
