Sightseeing
There are lots of fun and funky things to do this side of Los Angeles. Although we are a short drive to many of the greatest attractions such as the Rose Bowl, Universal Studios, the Hollywood Sign, Malibu, Disneyalnd and Six Flags, I think our biggest asset is the incredible outdoor spaces and parks we have here nearby. Of course, the seashore isn't too shabby, the backbone trail is grand, and locations to ride, climb, kayak, hike and swim are all nearby, Here are a few of our favorites.
Its more private, less crowded and gives you a real look at what Southern California's coastline looks like before development.

The Santa Monica Mountains are unique because they run east and west while most mountain ranges in the USA run north and south. Covered in varied flora such as rolling grassland, chapparal, oak forests and riparian stream beds, the mountains at sunrise and sunset present a beautiful pallet of mauve, gold and pink and are a joy to behold.

Covered in varied flora such as rolling grassland, chapparal, oak forests and riparian stream beds, the mountains at sunrise and sunset present a beautiful pallet of mauve, gold and pink and are a joy to behold.
In an isolated valley in the Santa Monica Mountains, the Semler Winery is home to animals of all sorts including giraffe, bison, zebra and many others. Open air trucks roll through the vineyards to the animal pastures and pens where guests taste the wine produced on the property. Walking tours are also available that cover the same ground on footpaths through the fields of grapes. Book early as this ultra popular event fills up quickly.

At the end of Main Street is the Mission of Santa Buenaventura and the old 'caballo' or spring where the indigenous inhabitants and settlers drew fresh water for their daily use. There is a restaurant with outdoor patio seating that offers expansive views of the surrounding countryside. And of course, this is the final resting place of Nancy and her 'Ronnie.' Worth the trip!

My favorite restaurants
Here in Agoura we have a budding world class food scene where you can find anything from Nouveau Mexican to French inspired, Extreme Sushi to Vegan take out! We are in the middle of the Malibu wine country with labels like Rosenthal, Cielo Wines and Semler bringing high praise to the Newton Canyon Apellation.
Right on Westward Beach, this locals only bar has the BEST happy hour anywhere! From 3 to 9 every day drinks are $5 and $6, food is $4 to $8 for generous and delicious menu items such as fish tacos, tuna tartar, roasted brussell sprouts, mac n cheese, sweet potato fries and calamari friti, to name just a few. Beach attire welcome. Come and catch a spectacular sunset. There's one every day!

In years past Agoura was a big horse and rodeo destonation so when Ronal Reagan, Buddy Epstien and the cowboys we know and love from late night movies got hungry they went to Whizzins for a good home cooked meal! The mall has been tastefully redone and is home to several great restaurants, a pastry shop and wine bar in addition to the Canyon Club, a music venue that brings in top acts, and a surprising number of upscale antique and home furnishing shops. Ample parking, great local wines and food, dancing and clubbing. This is something you wouldn't expect at a sleepy little town like Agoura, CA, but its a great way to spend an evening. You'll feel the history..

The mall has been tastefully redone and is home to several great restaurants, a pastry shop and wine bar in addition to the Canyon Club, a music venue that brings in top acts, and a surprising number of upscale antique and home furnishing shops. Ample parking, great local wines and food, dancing and clubbing. This is something you wouldn't expect at a sleepy little town like Agoura, CA, but its a great way to spend an evening. The food here is delicious. Its not cheap, but well worth it. Its a mom and pop french influenced restaurant with a limited menu of excellent choices. Great wine, outside seating, not too fancy or pretentious. It is a locals only restaurant.

As the sun goes down all the chandeliers and twinkle lights hanging from the ancient oaks and dotting the rows of grapevines and olive trees come on and transform the landscape into a fantasy land. Many famous television shows were filmed on location there including the Biggest Loser and episodes of the Bachelorette. Great food, great location!

Fun things to do
Take a surfing lesson in Malibu.
Hike to a waterfall at Escondido Canyon.
Do Yoga with a goat at 29 Oaks Ranch.
Take a sound bath.
Climb to the top of Ladyface Mountain, then go have a locally brewed beer at Ladyface Brasserie.
Visit Paramount Ranch where hundreds of western movies were filmed.
Sleep in a Tipi at 29 Oaks ranch.
Go over to laurel Canyon and tour the homes of iconic stars of the past: Houdini, the Doors, to name a few.
Visit the bookstore at Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga Canyon for hours of enjoyment browsing their extensive collection of New Age books, clothing, gems, perfumes, incense and many other funky fun things.
If you want to spend some money, head on down to Universal Studios or Disneyland. Both those destinations have outdoor malls that are free and are fun for the whole family. There's music and food and fun things to see around each turn. Or you can pay the ticket and enter the park.
They offer an extensive roster of bands, are within walking or uber distance of the ranch, offer good food and drink during the show.

Its also a great climbing spot and an excellent example of Californian riparian landscape. rest rooms and water available at the park, There is a fee for parking on the guarded lot.

Authentic outdoor nature experience
Take a guided trail ride through this unspoiled piece of California for a look at what it was like here a hundred years ago when Junipero Serra and DeAnza first arrived here. Ride through oak forests, over dry Arroyos, and through wide Meadows and perhaps discover some interesting geological formations or come upon a herd of grazing deer. This canyon can also be enjoyed on foot or on a bike since it is a multi-use trail, but we prefer to view it on horseback!

The sushi rolls are half size and half price so you an try several instead of eating all the same thing. The appetizer menu is large and the portions good sized.

Los Angeles traffic is the worst!
If you are planning to visit LA it may be better to stay closer to where your interests are. Coming out to our ranch gives guests an opportunity to see LA through a different lens. Its not all big city, big buildings, traffic and crowds. Our canyon and our ranch will introduce you to what we consider to be the best part of LA, namely the outdoors, the canyons, the clean air, beaches and equestrian lifestyle. Its definitely worth seeing!
