Food - Bangor

These are my favorite local places for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Bangor. There are many commercial restaurants in Bangor like Texas Roadhouse, Applebee's, Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, UNOs, Olive Garden, etc., but I would highly recommend visiting local places instead.
This is my favorite place to grab a sandwich or soup with fresh, local ingredients. Choose from their menu or build your own! There are several locations in Bangor and Orono. In Bangor, there is a Harvest Moon downtown, on Union Street, and by the mall.

I love Indian Food, and Taste of India in downtown Bangor gives you all the essential options for a wonderful Indian meal. If you are a bread fan, I highly recommend the Punjabi (coconut) naan and garlic naan. Lots of vegetarian options. Enjoy their $10.95 all-you-can-eat buffet on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This is the best breakfast spot in Bangor! I can't think of anything you can't get here. I highly recommend getting their home fries and french toast with real maple syrup!

Portland Pie Company is the newest addition to Bangor's food scene, and it's a good place to get some pizza, appetizers, and beer right in the heart of downtown. It has replaced our favorite burrito shop, the Verve, which recently went out of business. I personally have never been here, but it has been quite popular with the locals and may be worth checking out.

Seadog is my fail-safe recommendation for a fun and delicious dinner where everybody can find something they like. It is one of my favorite places to eat. They offer classic pub food with many healthy options including several vegetarian meals. Sea Dog brews their own beer, so it is fun to add on a beer sampler with your meal. I personally love their hummus and naan appetizer, sweet potato burger, and blueberry beer! There are many TV screens to watch sports, as well as a pool table and several arcade games.

If you're looking for fine dining, Fiddlehead Restaurant is the place to go. The menu is expensive and reservations are required, but the food is beyond amazing. This is a great place to go if you want to get dressed up and have a fancy night out.

Local activities

Bored and need something fun to do? Here are some ideas!
This is a fun activity for family and friends that I highly recommend! In an escape room, you get "locked" in a room and have to use clues to escape in a set amount of time. Great for a rainy day activity!

Blackbeard's is our favorite place to go mini golfing, and they also have go carts, batting cages, and a snack bar.

Stephen King has a really cool house on West Broadway in Bangor. If you're a die-hard fan, you may even want to consider booking a Stephen King tour to see all the places in Bangor that have inspired his stories.

Acadia

Many people who stay with us plan on visiting Acadia National Park. I would recommend driving the Park Loop Road and visiting Sand Beach and Thunder Hole as a minimum. If you want a beach away from the crowds, check out Hunter Beach which is further down the Park Loop Road. We usually pick up a to-go lunch in Bar Harbor and eat it on Hunter Beach. Taking a drive up Cadillac Mountain will give you beautiful views of the ocean and Bar Harbor. If you are into hiking, The Precipice is our favorite trail that involves climbing up ladders and rungs, and it is not for the faint of heart! Be aware that this trail is closed for most of the spring and summer due to the nesting peregrine falcons, so check Acadia's website to make sure they are open. A similar hike, The Beehive, is slightly less intense and is right across the road from Sand Beach. If you would like a more tame / flat hike, I would recommend walking around Jordan Pond or on the carriage roads. You can't drive to Acadia without visiting the beautiful town of Bar Harbor and walking around the shops. If you would like a quieter town to visit, Southwest Harbor is also a beautiful area. If you go to Southwest Harbor, I would highly recommend visiting Little Notch Bakery for their wonderful bread.
