Neighborhoods

Kyiv's most interesting districts (raions)
Podil (Podol in Russian) is one of Kyiv's oldest, quirkiest and enchanting districts. Once a sleepy residential district, Podil is fast returning to its historical roots as a centre of trade, culture and culinary delights. Big with hipsters, students and IT geeks - Podil is a fascinating place to explore. From Soviet-era river ports and industrial zones, to quaint residential courtyards - Podil has everything for culture vultures, party animals, business people or tree-hugging hippies. It's a fascinating place and a kind of 'city within a city' which deserves exploring.

Food scene

Puzata Hata is a national institution. A local 'fast food' cafeteria that sells cheap and tasty Ukrainian food. It is loved by locals and visitors alike. It's the perfect place for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even a beer :)

Хлібар (Hlibar) is the local bakery and probably the best place to buy fresh bread in Podil. In addition to baked goods, they sell a lot of pies, cakes and desserts, as well as frozen food that you can boil or cook at home. It's also a coffee shop, so you can feed your caffeine habit while you collect a fresh loaf.

ATB is one of a handful of local supermarkets, and probably the cheapest place to buy your shopping if you are staying for a while. Other options include the larger and slightly more up-market 'Silpo' (Yaroslavska St, 56а, Kyiv, 02000) Or the 'Varus' shop and go supermarket which is next to the Kontractova metro entrance (Kostiantynivska St, 2, Kyiv, 02000)

Cocktails

Despite it's ridiculous name, Pink Freaud serves some of Podil's best cocktails. Set in between two buildings, the original interior is a great backdrop for romantic evenings, pre-party drinks or nights out with colleagues.

Vegetarian & Vegan

Hum:Hum is one of Podil's coolest vegetarian eateries. Selling original, colorful and delicious vegetarian dishes, this is the place to head if you want to hang out with Kyiv's hipster and post-hipster socialites. Enjoy a glass of wine and a good book whilst the locals take selfies and instagram their dinners.

Craft Beer

In recent years many small craft-beer ‘micro pubs’ have popped up around Kyiv. Here’s the best options in Podil.
Conveniently located on the corner of our building, KNT YNR is a small craft beer ‘pub’ with a minimalist interior and a good selection of guest beers. If you drink too many, you won’t have far to walk/stumble home.

Drunken Monkey is another great craft beer bar/pub that sells a large selection of guest beers and food. They often have music in the evenings/weekends so it's a great place to have a beer and listen to some music without going to a club.

The Metro is the cheapest and fastest way to travel in Kyiv

Podil has three metro stations streaching the length of the district. Poshtova Ploschad (Postal Square) starts at the riverside below Independence Square. Kontractova, the most central station sits in the middle and connects with all the trams and local buses and Taras Shevchanko is at the far end near the residential and industrial zones.
