Sightseeing
Jackson has several museums that are worth a day trip. On Lakeland Drive there is the Sports Hall of Fame and the Agriculture Museum. Across the road in LeFleur's Bluff area is the Natural Science Museum and the Children's Museum. In the downtown area are 2 Civil Rights museums along with the Art Museum.
Eclectic, trendy and hip part of Jackson that was featured in the movie, The Help. It has just about everything you would need: banking, drugstore, groceries, bakery, fitness center, dry cleaners, coffee shop, music store, wine/spirits, excellent food venues all within walking distance. Brent's Drugs is well known for their real soda fountain serving up burgers/fries, Babalu serves up some great tapas and margaritas, Sal and Mookies makes New York style pizzas and ice cream. If you are looking for more of a fine dining atmosphere, check out Walker's, Char or Bravos. Saltine is located in Duling Hall which was an old elementary school (Duling School) that had been closed for many years. The school was remodeled and the classrooms became home to some small businesses. Very quaint area that is a must to see.

Dogwood Festival (Flowood) and Renaissance Mall (Ridgeland) are the only 2 shopping districts that I would recommend. Both have a great selection of stores such as Target, TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Lowe's, Hobby Lobby, Belk and many others, along with a variety of places to eat lunch.
