Bikers - know the risks
Renting a moped is easily the fastest, cheapest, most practical yet also most adventurous way to get around not just Ubud in Bali but all over Indonesia.
However, please note that most people who drive a moped or motorcycle for the first time in Bali will have an accident of some sort within the first 6 months.
The driving laws are much looser here. Many drivers don't have driving licenses and many drivers don't indicate or will maybe overtake you at fast speeds. There are also stray dogs and damaged roads to watch out for.
If you do decide to drive a moped and it's your first time, please drive very carefully and be aware of the risks.

Greeting phrases and extra tips
In Bali, there is a friendly warm culture among people, regardless of whether you know each other or not. Therefore, more important than any Indonesian phrases you master, is the body language you use. If you smile when greeting the Balinese, you have done half the work towards learning Indonesian!
Hello - Hallo
Good morning - Selamat pagi (or just pagi if you want to be informal)
Good afternoon - Selamat sore/Selamat Siang (the former is between 11am and 3pm, the latter is for the later afternoon)
Good evening - Selamat malam
How are you? - Apa kabar (literally, "what's the news?)
