This is a desert institution well off the beaten track. A well-deserved one. Imagine an old western town straight out of the movies--that's the backdrop--Pioneertown. Now imagine a place where you can catch live music while enjoying some mouth-watering BBQ grilled over an outdoor mesquite wood fire on the back patio. It's incredible.
Hint/Suggestion: If you followed our Joshua Tree suggestion and entered on the eastern end of the park, this is a fantastic reward after your day of touring. Exit the park at the Western Gate--then take Route 62 West until you run into Pioneertown Road---it's about a 12 mile drive. Be sure to check out website for upcoming bands and shows.

Every Thursday since 1991, the town of Palm Springs shuts three blocks of the main drag running straight through downtown for this open air fair now featuring upwards of over 200 vendors. Lots of cool stuff to see here especially the artwork by local artisans. Some great eats too.
Hint: Many stores in downtown Palm Springs will have later hours on Village Fest Thursdays. Look for the "BOLT" (Business Open Late Thursday) signs in the participating retailers' windows to see who might be burning the midnight oil.
