This is a great place to visit. It's about a 20 minute drive from Doonbank. Parking is free, as is access to the extensive grounds. Dogs are allowed, but MUST be kept on a lead. The house is stunning and well worth a visit. However, you must book your tour in advance, so visit their website and get it booked! There is also a very nice cafe for food and beverages.

Lovely boat trip out to this iconic volcanic plug landmark from Girvan - about a 20 minute drive from Doonbank.
Just a 2 minute drive from Doonbank is the heart of Alloway - with the Brig O'Doon, Burns National Heritage Museum, Burns Cottage and Alloway Kirk. A nice morning or afternoon wallowing in all that is Scotland's national Bard.

Right on the coast and overlooking the Isle of Arran, the Mull of Kintyre and Ailsa Craig, Culzean Castle [prounced cullane], on the Ayrshire coast, is about a 20 minute drive from Doonbank Cottage. The castle is the most visited property of the National Trust for Scotland. Culzean Castle was built in the late sixteeth century, above a network of caves. The castle became a centre for smuggling during the eighteenth century. Over 600 acres of woodland to wander around.

Only a 2 minute drive or 15 minute walk from Doonbank and close to the heart of Alloway and all things Rabbie Burns. Lovely service and a great location including the famous Brig O'Doon - with Tam O'Shanter, Meg and Nannie the Witch!! Food is very reasonably priced and the lads and lassies that serve you are lovely. A great Scottish experience and great for all occasions - from romantic to meeting friends and family.

Not cheap - but an afternoon tea at Turnberry is a really delicious treat and one you won't forget. Lovely surroundings and a chance to view one of Scotland's premier golf courses and (not a lot of people know this), you can borrow a pitching iron and putter and play their pitch and putt for free. Then you can say you have played one of the top golf courses in Scotland! Even if you are not into golf, it's good for a laugh :) Book in advance
