For about 100 years, Maxwell Street was one of Chicago’s most unconventional business—and residential—districts. About a mile long and located in the shadow of downtown skyscrapers, it was a place where businesses grew selling anything from shoestrings to expensive clothes. Today the tradition continues with the Sunday Market.
The famous street is set within the UIC campus, featuring one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation. The neighborhood is easily explored on foot and features a wide-array of notorious Chicago favorites such as the Chicago-style hotdog, Famous Italian Beef, and other local favorites!
