Nohoch Kay has some of the freshest and most delicious seafood in town as well as an unbeatable beachside location on the south end of the Malecon. You can’t go wrong ordering anything off their menu! The fresh fish of the day, fried with garlic and white wine, is amazing.

Malecón 21 is a beachside restaurant that is somewhat upscale while still being relaxed and unpretentious . A great date night location but also very family-friendly. Beachside tables or tables in an open-air dining area.

Delicious ice cream! The store is located in the "Casitas" neighborhood of Mahahual, close the the cruise port and across from the pyramid on the main street, Paseo del Puerto. In addition to ice cream they serve coffee and breakfast/lunch items. If you take a thermos they will pack it with ice cream for you to take back to the house.

The town is famous for its pineapple farms and is lined with fruit stands along Highway 307. Many of the vendors sell fresh juices, pineapple cake and cornbread too. It’s just south of the turnoff for Mahahual, about a 5-10 minute drive once you reach the highway.

A small grocery with a good selection of liquor, including top shelf brands. On Sundays there are usually vendors outside the store selling homemade salsas and pastries.

This small market has a great selection of fresh fruits and veggies, cheeses, and canned goods. They often sell fresh tortillas by the kilo as well - just look for the insulated cooler. It is located on the main road into Mahahual, on the south side of the road just past the Don Kike’s fishing store.

Dunosusa is a good spot to pick up basic groceries and household goods. It is located on the main road through the Casitas neighborhood, on your right as you drive toward the cruise port. There are several off street parking spots in front.

He speaks Spanish and English and works well with everyone from kids to grandparents. Especially recommended if you are interested in wildlife photography or birding as these are some of his passions as well. Laguna Bacalar, or “the lake of seven colors,” is a stunningly beautiful freshwater lake located just over an hour from Mahahual. It is absolutely worth a visit and a boat tour. Most tours last at least 3 hours so plan to spend most of the day in Bacalar. We recommend DayTour Bacalar for a great, all-inclusive tour.
Chacchoben is the closest archeological site to Mahahual, located about an hour away near the small town of Limones. If you get there early you can beat the cruise ship crowds and practically have the site to yourself.

The Kohunlich ruins are beautiful and very accessible if you have a rental car. Located about 2.5 hours from Mahahual, they are worth the drive. Keep an eye out for howler monkeys!

It is also close to the Mayan ruins of Oxtankah.
This is the best fishing guide in town. They can outfit you for a day of fishing with either fly rods or spin gear, and guide you throughout your day. “Fish to Dish” is a tour we recommend highly, especially for kids.
