A top table but you have to book very early to get any hope of a table. Beyoncé and Jayz even came here for dinner once… Pricey as it should, with dinner menu at 95Eur and lunch at 60Eur…

Caché is a bit further away (a 20mn walk) but we love it as it is literally hidden (the French meaning of its name) at the far end of a very old street, in a delightful setting. The cuisine is great and very modern, tapas style. You feel you have stepped out of time once on that street. Advanced booking also required.

Not to miss in the area

One of our favorite neighborhoods in Paris. Feels like a small village with quaint streets and boutiques. You can just wander around, and enjoy, eat a falafel bought on one of the restaurants of rue des Rosiers, or move from one cafe or tearoom to the next (see list below). Some of the most delightful spots are Place des Vosges, Place Sainte Catherine (sip a coffee on one of the terrasses), eating at Marianne, an institution for falafel and mezzes, which outdoor terrasse is right on a delightful little town square at the cross of the 2 shopping arteries in the district, Rue des Francs Bourgeois and Rue Vieille du Temple. We have marked on the map one of our favorite strolls, from the heart of the Marais to the Seine, then crossing over to delightful Island Saint Louis. Musée Picasso is a go-to museum, located in a beautiful hotel particulier (French aristrocacy’s 17th century mansions). You can sip a coffee on the rooftop. Also, the Pavillon de la Reine, 28 Place des Vosges, is a luxury lovely hotel in the Marais, dating from the 17th century. It is an ivy covered building on the elegant Place des Vosges. You should definitely stroll by for a peak. If you have time, take the glass side door and head to the inner courtyard for a glass of wine in paradise. Restaurants: • Chez Janou, 2 rue Roger Verlomme, very typical provencal restaurant with a cute outdoor area. They boast 80+ kinds of pastis, the typical Provençal liquor. Expect to queue to get a table but they are pretty fast and efficient • Excellent crepes at Breizh Cafe 109 rue vieille du temple, which also has a nice outdoor seating • Soon Grill, 78 rue des Tournelles, one of the best Korean BBQ in a beautiful setting • Mr T, 38 rue de Saintonge: Neobistro with inventive fusion cuisine at very reasonable prices • Pontochoux - 18 rue Pont aux Choux - serves the best Japanese curries in town. Just next doors, you have a ravishing Moroccan tea room, Oultma, where you can sip mint tea around delicious home made couscous or Moroccan pastries • Miznon, 22 rue des Ecouffes, offers some of the best Mediterranean sandwiches or plates around. Check the roasted cauliflower which is a must have. • Joji 5 rue de Turenne offers excellent and reasonably cheap Asian fusion food • Marche Enfants Rouges is a quaint food market located 39 rue de Bretagne. You ll want to try all the yummy food stalls, and visit the maze of little streets around which are all very cute, with plenty of other food options. The Rue de Bretagne itself has 2 macarons shops (Laduree, Pierre Herme, among the best in Paris), and luxury chocolate shops (maison du chocolat, Jean Paul hevin, pierre herme)… • Bontemps, 57 rue de Bretagne is a lovely pastry shop with a tearoom attached. • Homies/Homies Bis are located in a cute street at 26 and 13 rue Beautreillis, with yummy small plates and a nice wine bar • A cool option for a drink before or after dinner is Andy Wahloo on 69 rue des Gravilliers. There’s a hidden Paris courtyard with Moroccan inspired decor. Tearooms/Ice Creams • L ébouillanté, 6 rue des Barres. One of our favourite spots, as the outdoor tables are in a lovely street a few mn from the Seine. • Le Griffon, 55 rue des griffons. Cosy indoors and a nice courtyard at the back. On the other side of the street, you have the Hotel de Soubise which gardens you can freely access for a delicious stroll. Beyond the imposing French gardens, on the right, you ll find other more English style gardens, for a refreshing halt during the summer hot days • Le loir dans la théière , 3 rue des Rosiers. Cosy, with lovely cakes • La Mouette Rieuse, 17 bis rue Pavee. The tearoom is at the back of a very cute library, with views on a garden • Café Suédois 4 rue Pavee. The tearoom is in a beautiful hotel particulier’s courtyard. • If you are into Bubble teas, our favorites are MA+CH 30 rue Chapon and Laize, 19 rue de Montmorency To buy marvelous tea: go to the beautiful boutiques of Mariage Frères (30 rue du Bourg Tibourg), or Damman Frères (15 place des Vosges) Popular ice cream places in the area are Pozzetto (39 rue du Roi de Sicile) and Amorino (31 rue vieille du temple, or 1 rue des Francs Bourgeois just nearby Place des Vosges). And of course, Berthillon, the famous ice creams on Island St Louis (plenty of shops selling them on the island)
