You can always say that you have been on the Appalachian Trail if you find yourself on Bridge Street in town. This 2100+ mile footpath has many shorter hikes that are easily accessible from the town of Hot Springs. Do your research and plan a hike while you are in town

It is a slid 45 minutes from Hot Springs, but worth the effort if you want to ascend to the closest thing to heaven. Please note, there is a effort to keep Max patch wild as it has become a favorite outdoor spot. Research times that it is "open", take a picnic and kite, but make sure to clean up after yourself
