It serves “Alpine Cuisine”, i.e. food from the South of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. You can expect to pay around 30 Euros per person for dinner with wine and coffees, around €50 if you are having a starter and one of their delicious deserts. The quality and atmosphere is very good. Observatory opened to the public on 1 May 1896 as the Treptow Observatory to coincide with the Great Industrial Exposition of Berlin. Based on Archenhold's design it contained what was then the world's longest telescope, with a focal length of 21 m (69 ft). The Observatory was named after Archenhold at its 50th anniversary in 1946. The telescope was deactivated from 1958–1983 for repairs, and remains functional to this day.

I think this peninsula on the other side of spree is quite special, despite recent housing developments. I regularly go to its small park on the Eastern tip where you can jump into the river to cool down on hot summer days. It also has nice riverside walking path all around it if you like to escape the tourist crowds.

From the landing pier, visitors have the wonderful chance to discover Berlin by boat. And here also begins the beautiful, four kilometre long path along the Spree. On this promenade that is especially popular during the summer visitors will find the traditional tourist restaurant "Haus Zenner" with its large terrace.
A little further on lies the island of youth (die Insel der Jugend), which leads to the Abbey Bridge, which is listed as an historic monument. Here you can rent pedal boats and rowing boats. On the other side of the Spree can be found the impressive power plant Rummelsburg and the leaning tower of the stralau peninsula, which also goes by the name of the "appendix of Berlin."
Those who do not set out along the shores but instead take the road crossing over into Alt-Treptow, will find themselves on a huge lawn and play area, at whose southern end there is a large lake. In the middle of the park lies the soviet war memorial. The second attraction of Treptow Park is right next door: The Archenhold Observatory is home to the longest refracting telescope in the world.
