The original Mast General Store is located in Valle Crucis and is a great spot to check out. There is a newer Mast store just down the road as well, they sell clothes, gear, and souvenirs as well as lots of candy (at the new store)!

This is a great hike for experienced hikers or those up for a challenge. its about 7 miles round trip, and has some very steep parts. You can access it off of Hwy 105 near Tynecastle Shopping Center on your way to Banner Elk; the trail takes you up the backside of Grandfather Mountain. At the Grandfather Trail intersection, you can turn left to hit the highest peak in the area (Callaway Peak)…or go left down to the visitor’s center.
