Trails follow wooded paths, old roads, and grassy walkways through forests, valleys, and fields. Some offer views of Beltzville Lake and waterfalls. The Saw Mill Trail is just west of the dam and passes small ponds, an old slate quarry, a wetland, and a stream. The Falls Trail is a beginner-friendly avenue to Wild Creek Falls. Hikers can view the gentile cascade from a wooden bridge. Trail guides are available at the park office.

The museum is built around a working turntable and a roundhouse that are largely replications of the original DL&W facilities; the roundhouse, for example, was reconstructed from remnants of a 1932 structure. The site also features several original outbuildings dated between 1899 and 1902. All the buildings on the site are listed with the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad Yard-Dickson Manufacturing Co. Site. Most of the steam locomotives and other railroad equipment at Steamtown NHS were originally collected by F. Nelson Blount, a millionaire seafood processor from New England. In 1964, Blount established a non-profit organization, the Steamtown Foundation, to operate Steamtown, U.S.A., a steam railroad museum and excursion business in Bellows Falls, Vermont. In 1984, the foundation moved Steamtown to Scranton, conceived of as urban redevelopment and funded in part by the city.

Such as deer, bear, foxes, chipmunks, squirrels and many more. Visitors can hike over 100 miles of trails that offer beautiful waterfalls, gorges and ravines.

Blakeslee Natural Area is a 130-acre preserve frequently visited for hiking, fishing, waterfall viewing and picnicking. In addition to its wide, flat waterfalls, the natural area features three blazed hiking trails: the orange-blazed Pine Trail is an easy half-mile path; the blue-blazed Highland Trail loops about a mile through hardwood and pine forests, and the red-blazed Creek Trail follows the creek out and back for a little over two miles. Leashed pets are welcome at the Austin T. Blakeslee Natural Area. Fishing is permitted in season.
