Food scene

The marina restaurant is the only one in town that sits directly on the water with stunning views of Lake Chatuge and a mountain backdrop. It's absolutely gorgeous.
The vibe is relaxing, the food is tremendous (a little higher priced than other places in town, but worth it for the view!) and on the weekends, check their website, they often have live music, too!
We bring all our friends & family here and you won't regret stopping by, even if it's just to grab an app & relax for a few minutes!

Papa's Pizza to go is the best! They offer great food at a great place - and bonus - - they deliver to our home! The delivery guy, Donald, is super friendly. Please just indicate that you are in the cottage and he will bring it right back to you.

This is our favorite family breakfast place. If Cracker Barrel were a locally owned restaurant, then this would be Mary's. They even make cute chocolate chip mickey pancakes for the kiddos if requested.

Trailful is one of my favorite stores in town. Even if you are not an outdoors person, in my opinion, this is the best shop in town to pickup Hiawassee/Lake Chatuge gear! From. shirts to hats to local goods, they have a great selection of high quality & great looking gear & gifts, often local made. Check them out!

This beautiful farmhouse has an eclectic set of shops with everything from homemade items, to specialty boutique items. Also a great place to pick-up some Hiawassee/Lake Chatuge apparel if you are looking for a memento.

Sightseeing
The Lake Chatuge Dam Trail is our favorite! We go there probably once a week to take in the views and walk on the flat, paved trail along the lake. The parking is right next to the trail, so it is accessible for all ability levels. It's definitely a must see!

Helen is an adorable Bavarian town about 45 minutes from the cottage. Between authentic German food & drinks, this is also a great place to go tubing for the day. So many quaint shops & attractions, it will have something for everyone!

If you are looking for the best view in town, Bell Mountain is where it's at. It's free to drive up, but buckle up, because it does get rather steep at the end. You will be glad you made the trip when you check out the 360 degree view from the mountain though -it's breathtaking!

This is one of our favorite falls to visit in the area! If you want to go down to the swinging bridge, make sure you bring some water & comfortable shoes - there are a lot of steps! It does take some work, but our girls were still able to do it when they were 3 & 4. However, if that's not your scene & even if you just want to view the falls from the top of the gorge, it's still a beautiful place to explore.

If you want to go down to the swinging bridge, make sure you bring some water & comfortable shoes - there are a lot of steps! It does take some work, but our girls were still able to do it when they were 3 & 4. However, if that's not your scene & even if you just want to view the falls from the top of the gorge, it's still a beautiful place to explore.
Enjoy Georgia's highest peak where on a clear day you can even see the Atlanta skyline! There is a small admission fee & you can either take a bus to the top or hike the trail. Once you're at the top, take in the 360 degree view and walk around on the well built observation deck for spectacular views in every direction!

This is an absolutely relaxing and picturesque winery just minutes from our cottage. They often feature live music and have a seasonal restaurant - Paris & Company - that is perfect for a special date night. Check out the gift shop, grab a tasting flight, and enjoy the spectacular view! Bonus - it's a very casual environment (we've shown up in our hiking attire) and everyone is welcome so whether you're feeling fancy or casual, this place is for everyone.

If you've ever watched Gilmore Girls, downtown Hayesville will evoke a special memory for you. Equipped with a cute little downtown square & cute shops & restaurants, it's a little gem tucked away just over the state line. If you're here in the fall, one of our favorite activities is Pumpkin Chunkin' where they have huge catapult pumpkins across a mountain field with plenty of food & activities for the whole family.
