City/town information
With around 30,000 inhabitants Saranda is the largest city in the south of Albania. Saranda is only a 30 minute ferry away from the popular Greek island Corfu and provides a strategic location from where to discover the Albanian Riviera.The city itself is very lively with lots to do. Beaches with crystal clear waters surround the town, you’ll see many people taking a stroll on the boulevard that stretches alongside the bay and there are plenty of restaurants with great Mediterranean and international food. Many of them have great views over the bay. Some of the bars and restaurants turn into clubs at night, providing the city with a great nightlife.
Ksamil is a village and a former municipality in the riviera of Southern Albania, and part of Butrint National Park. Ksamil is located south of the city of Sarandë off the road to Butrint.The Ksamil Islands transport you to a tropical paradise, with the breathtakingly turquoise waters, sandy beaches, and natural tranquility so sought-after by beach-going enthusiasts

Butrint, located in the south of Albania approximately 20km from the modern city of Saranda, has a special atmosphere created by a combination of archaeology, monuments and nature in the Mediterranean. With its hinterland it constitutes an exceptional cultural landscape, which has developed organically over many centuries. Butrint has escaped aggressive development of the type that has reduced the heritage value of most historic landscapes in the Mediterranean region. It constitutes a very rare combination of archaeology and nature. The property is a microcosm of Mediterranean history, with occupation dating from 50 000 BC, at its earliest evidence, up to the 19th century AD.

Nevertheless the excavations done so far are really impressive and not to be missed when visiting Albania. Expect to spend at least 2 to 3 hours to visit the entire site.
