Food Scene
This place offers a wide variety of meats, veggie substitutes, buns, and other fillers and sauces for a custom made burger. I personally like their kale or collard wrap instead of a bun but you can also get a great traditional burger with a bun and cheese, bacon or whatever. Its sometimes crowded when the local schools let out in the afternoon.

This is our default Italian restaurant and pizza place. You can get brick oven pizza for delivery or takeout but its also got table service and waiters for full service and an extensive classic Italian menu.

A great Italian Gelato place where you can order familiar and exotic flavors from the street. It's also part of a sweet restaurant that gets crowded at lunch with the mommy and babies crowd but the food is delicious and the bright big tables in back are comfortable for families with kids but the menu and atmosphere are sophisticated enough for adults.

Parks & Nature
Brooklyn's Central Park is just a few blocks away. A great place for a walk or a jog or just a rest on a park bench among towering trees. I love this park. It's where I go to recharge my brain and enjoy nature. During the summer there is a fantastic concert series where you can catch a wide variety of acts at the open air bandshell near the 9th Street entrance. There are also a couple of times a day, in the morning and the evening, when dogs are allowed off leash for a few hours in the main meadows.

Prospect Park

Theres a wonderful complex of greenhouses with several different climate zones: desert, tropical, temperate. There are sections of the garden designated as plots for children to grow their own vegetables, a traditional Japanese garden and a garden for the blind with flora with distinctive scents and textures. There is a path off the cherry tree esplanade that has brass leaves inlaid with the names of famous people from Brooklyn.

This great Museum began over a hundred years ago and has a huge Egyptian collection as well as sub-Saharan African, indigenous Latin American and art and artifacts from all over the world. They also have great exhibitions of contemporary art and a nice museum shop. One of my favorite sections has life size replicas of furnishings and decor in homes from various eras. They also have a great free party once a month with live bands, movies and refreshments.

The best place to see the iconic New York skyline is from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, a long boardwalk along the East River across from downtown Manhattan.

This grand arch is covered with sculpture by some of America's premier artists and was built after the Civil War as Union's Soldiers and Sailors Memorial. It is in a plaza at the center point of several major converging roads across from Prospect Park and the Main Brooklyn Library. On Saturday mornings there is a bustling farmers market in the area and occasionally the upper galleries inside the arch are open for visitors.

I've lived here for 40 years and I still enjoy walking up and down the tree lined streets admiring the local architecture. The 100 year old facades of the townhouses are a mix of styles and I am still discovering hidden gems.
