Down the street, you’ll find Pizzara’s, the neighborhood’s favorite pizza joint. Sure, the classic cheese is great, but we recommend getting a little adventurous with the Campesina (chorizo, corn, sweet plantains) or the eponymous Pizzara (chorizo, pepperoni, ham, red peppers, green and black olives). They also serve basic salads, sandwiches, and cannelones.

History Museums This museum is more of a collection of photos, library memorabilia, building architecture from around town, organization and school items, etc. more so than a museum. Still, it was fascinating to see artifacts of history for the past 100 years. What i found equally exciting was re-entering the old 15th St. library which is where the museum is located. The library has been converted to a cultural center with senior activities and rooms for concerts, etc. The outer facade of the library is still there but the interior woodwork is all gone. That is disappointing but at least revisiting, I could reimagine the way it was. It used to be a fabulous library. Some things should not be modernized.

Located at between 24th & 25th streets along Palisade Ave, this park was renovated in 1997 in association with the New Jersey Green Acres program, Ellsworth Park provides not only a scenic respite for its neighbors and visitors, but a history lesson in the changing face of Hudson County. One of the more "monumented" parks in the county, nearly every corner of this picturesque park offers a window in Union City's past with its many dedicatory statues. War memorials dating back to before WWI to busts of leading citizens and popular figures dot this small park. See below for a few of these unique monuments. Neighborhoods

If you’re thinking of moving to New York City or the surrounding New Jersey area, picking the right neighborhood can be a challenge. After all, there are so many to choose from! Union City, New Jersey—also known as “Havana on the Hudson”—is considered a suburb of NYC and is located across the Hudson River from Manhattan. It sits squarely above popular Hoboken and west of Weekhawken (which borders the Hudson River). This New Jersey city is far more affordable than Manhattan, but also proves to be more price-friendly than Hoboken and Jersey City. Made up of apartment buildings, condos, and many multi-family houses, Union City still has that density, aliveness, and, at times, the anonymity of the big city. Once a haven for Cuban immigrants, this NJ neighborhood still boasts a large Hispanic population of Cubans, Colombians, Dominicans, which infuses the neighborhood with a very vibrant and communal feel. Thinking about moving to Union City, NJ? Here’s our guide to the best restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores, outdoor attractions, gyms, nightlife, and transportation in the city.

Walking One of the best ways to absorb the unique culture of Union City is to simply walk around. Bergenline Avenue is a bustling main thoroughfare, where restaurants and stores run continuously for dozens of blocks. Many of the shops and restaurants are independently owned. Because Bergenline is a one-way southbound street, it is very congested to drive through during most hours of the day. Starting on the north end of Washington Park, the first several blocks are mostly residential. After walking from the park a few blocks, businesses begin to emerge. Buildings on Bergenline span three centuries; many still standing from the 19th century. The entire northern section of Bergenline, from 32nd to 47th Street, is particularly interesting to walk, as many buildings from the 19th century and early 20th century are still standing; as a result, this district is listed on the New Jersey Historic Preservation.

City/town information

Weehawken proves the best views of New York happen in New Jersey. Picturesque parks, renowned waterfront restaurants and an award-winning school system have attracted many to the city, but the beauty of this area is what keeps them. Weehawken has long been desirable for its close proximity to New York City. During the Revolutionary War, George Washington sent some of his men to Weehawken (Weehawk at the time) to watch over British soldiers stationed in New York. After the war, the wealthy set their sights on the “peak of the Palisades” in order to escape the industrial atmosphere of developing New York City. Around that time, the same engineer who built the Eiffel Tower came to Weehawken where he designed wagon lifts, stairs and an elevator to assist rich families in reaching the wildly popular ferry stations.
