The northern end of the Caledonian Canal is just 5 minutes walk from our house. Start at the Muirtown Marina and walk in a loop to the Sea Lock at Clachnaharry (there's a nice little pub there too). It's an easy 30 minute walk with lovely views to the west and north. You can take a longer walk from our house along the canal-side into the city centre via the Ness Islands.

There's a long beach, a golf course, a cathedral and much more in the ancient town of Dornoch. It's about one hour's drive from our house, heading north.

Everything Else
If you have a car we recommend a day trip to Ullapool. It's a 1.5 hour drive from our house. The scenery en route is stunning with mountains and moors either side of the road, and the little town itself is set on the shores of Loch Broom with a harbour, restaurants, gift shops and amazing views. Drive a little further north and you will find beautiful Ardmair Beach, Achiltibuie, Rhu lighthouse and some more beautiful scenery. The area is very sparsely populated, quiet and unspoiled.
