Portsmouth is a must see small city just over the bridge to our south. It is historic and has fabulous restaurants and boutiques all set in an historic maritime setting. The Strawbery Banke Museum along the Pisqataqua is probably one of the best early American museums on the East Coast. I highly recommend. I would combine visiting Portsmouth with visiting Newcastle, Odiorned Point (Rye, NH) and Rye and Northampton coastline beaches. All very close to our home. Spectacular views. Very coastal New England.

Kittery Point has a beautiful park on Gerish Island, Fort Foster. Great to walk and visit. Beautiful views. There is a great food scene at Kittery Foreside....just over the bridge from Portsmouth, NH. Take the scenic road, route 103, from our home to get there. Our secret. There is a fabulous restaurant in an historic location, called Frisbee's, which overlooks Perkins Cove. Go to the rooftop bar/restaurant for an appetizer and a drink and take in the vistas or go to the wharf restaurant for a unique outdoorsy dining experience. There is a local lobster pound on Chauncy Creek. Very rustic and outdoors. BYOB and you can pull up your boat to dine as well. You can bring along a picnic in a basket and simply purchase your lobsters and clams at the pound and dine on the wharf. Fills up in the summer so plan ahead and plan to wait, but that's part of the experience.
