Great beach walk. Open ocean so be careful swimming. Some days the ocean is mellow and a good place to get wet is by the rocks. There is a little restaurant called Pez Gallo that is nice for food or a cool drink. The restaurant is part of Villa Sol Beach Club but you can go in the restaurant without paying the beach club fee.

This market is in the center of the downtown area. It has most everything and a very neat experience. The colectivos run circuits to the market (mercado) and back from most areas of town. Great veggies and flowers. Meat, fish, clothing and gifts. Also a variety of foods.

Spectacular site when the turtles are arriving to lay their eggs. It’s seasonal and more towards the end of the rainy season. Check with a travel agent to see if it is happening or not. It’s about a 30 to 40 minute ride out of town to arrive here. Turtle release is also popular and can be done on Playa Bacocho in Puerto Escondido.

Surf

Intermediate surf most days.
Beautiful beach at the end of Playa Zicatela. Very popular for intermediate surfing and also swimming (on small wave days). Lots of shade and food right on the beach and shops just off the beach. Trendy area with a mixed crowd. You can walk the beach from Zicatela to get here or take a taxi.

Zicatela Beach is for experienced surfers and not for swimming. You can definitely wade, sunbathe, and beach walk. It’s very fun to watch the surfing here especially during a big swell. Lots of beach restaurants. Great sunset scene. Not as crowded as La Punta lately.

Public transportation is very available in Puerto Escondido

We have buses and co-ops (ride sharing) for affordable transportation. Private taxis are about 30 to 50 pesos per ride. Our place is centrally located for going in either direction around town. You can easily get by without a vehicle. Motos (motorcycles and scooters) are popular but be very very careful. There are quite a few motorcycle accidents.
