As in so many Greek diners, warmth and hospitality prevail here. Your toddler will get a cup with a straw and lid, and the waiter will bring bread and fruit to the table immediately! The food is fresh and locally sourced, like pork products from German butcher Schaller & Weber, and runs the gamut from breakfast through dinner and dessert with kid and adult favorites. Family run since 1945, it’s named after local landmark Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the NYC mayor. After you eat, take a stroll through the nearby Carl Schurz Park, which stretches along the East River and is dotted with playgrounds.

The Mansion Restaurant has been owned and operated by the Philips family since 1945. Its founder, John Philips, was a Depression-era immigrant from a small village in Cyprus. Shortly after his arrival through Ellis Island, he found his first opportunity to build a new life as a restaurant worker. Just a few years later, John opened his own restaurant near Gracie Mansion, the mayor’s residence on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The Mansion quickly became a favorite neighborhood eating spot for families, singles, students, taxi drivers, and casual walk-ins. The restaurant began to gain a reputation for being a “home away from home,” serving the community from early morning until late at night
