The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World; French: La Liberté éclairant le monde) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor in New York, in the United States. The copper statue, a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and its metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel. Take a ferry ride to get closer to this world famous icon of liberty and freedom. Tip: The view of the statue is best seen on the ferry or across at Battery Park. Going to the island itself makes it too upclose for any photography and selfie. Furthermore, the wait to get back on the ferry is really long. It might be more enjoyable to stay on the ferry and enjoy the round-trip ride.
