One of THE BEST ideal places to visit! We love going to Kiholo Bay. It’s heading back towards Kona about 10 mins from Hale Keala. Parking is along the busy highway and then about a half mile walk along a paved trail to the bay. From there you can find a private cove all along the bay with turtles casually swimming by. Make sure to take plenty of water and a hat as shade is limited. These photos were taken with my phone and no filter was necessary! Absolutely picturesque!

This is truly a locals secret. There are so many turtles and the "Queens bath" is a unique experience as well. The Drive down into Kiholo Bay is simple (between mile markers #82 and #81), just fine for any rental car (2 wheel drives included), just a few minutes off the highway with a turn around at the bottom (just steps from the beach) and lots of parking along the side. A home reported to have been Loretta Lynn's is off to the left (in the camping area) and worth checking out as well. Just an easy stroll down the beach (to the North) will take you to the Queen's Bath, just off into the woods, by a few feet, from the beach. These two pools (connected but with 2 openings) have a big ladder for easy entry into the freshwater pools that are due both to rainwater and springs but be careful if you jump in as they are only 4 feet dep or so, rising and lowering slightly with the tides. A refreshing dip (it's a little colder than the ocean) and the freshwater is a terrific spot to get that saltwater off of you after swimming with the turtles - and there are loads of them in this area, many near the shoreline and easy to spot as they feed on the algae that grows on these rocks plus we've seen many of them up on the sun, just hangin'. Remembr the rules and don't harm or frighten them in any way. The visually-stunning "Bali House" is just another couple hundred yards further down the beach with the friendly caretaker's little beach house another 100 yards past. Wild goats are often roaming the woods so keep your eyes peeled and you will see these skittish little animals - sometimes up in the trees! Enjoy.
