Cesar Manrique is Lanzarote's most famous architect and artist. His house is built into the caverns of a volcano, and is by far the most stunning piece of architecture on the island. Well worth a visit.

The Fundacion has to be a must if visiting Lanzarote as Cesar Manrique is considered something of a God to islanders for the work he did to encourage tourism from around the world but at the same time making sure it remained unspoilt and kept its magic. Cesar Manrique gave up his house to be made into a museum and to display his art work, he moved to Haria to be near the rest of his family. Haria Cemetary would be his last resting place following a fatal car crash at the roundabout by his Tahiche house.

Do not miss this beautiful house of Cesar Manrigue. This is architecture blending with nature. Built into volcanic lava, and making use of the natural colours and texture. From the entrance to all the various rooms, gardens and the swimming pool. All in his hallmark colours of white and brown/ black. A must see.

What is it? Manrique’s to-die-for home/studio in Las Palmas, built into an old lava flow, with five underground cavern rooms in natural volcanic bubbles, interconnected with tunnels. Why go? Unless you’re a millionaire rock star, it’s probably the coolest home you’ll ever step foot in, a blend of volcanic rock, clever architecture and art. Curvy swimming pools set into white terraces surrounded by palms and amazing mid-century furniture are off-set by the bubbly black rock walls.
