Like it sounds, Long Sands Beach is a 1.5-mile stretch of white sand along Route 1A with some tide pools and rocky spots. It’s handicap accessible with access ramps near the bathhouse. This beach is a great place for sunbathing and swimming in the surf during the summer, taking a stroll all year, playing beach volleyball, and flying kites when the weather permits. There’s also a designated area for surfing and launching kayaks, and you can rent umbrellas and rafts. From the last week of June through Labor Day, Long Sands Beach has lifeguards on duty. This period is the busiest of the year with up to 5,000 thousand visitors every day.

From May through September, dogs are allowed on the beach before 8am and after 6pm! Take a sunrise or sunset stroll with your pup. We recommend checking the tides (google: York maine tide charts) so that you make sure to have some beach for walking on :)

To walk to Long Sands (our favorite beach!) take a left out of the driveway. Walk up Ridge Road until you are able to cross the road onto Beacon Street. Head down Beacon Street while you enjoy the view of the water until you reach Long Sands Beach. Pick your spot! We personally like to walk a bit to north (take a left) where the bath house is easily accessible and there is a ramp down to the sand - great for strollers and wagons. You can also park along Long Sands in a meter spot, if you get there early enough. Pay attention to the tide chart. At high tide, Long Sands loses a lot of available sand area. But at low tide there's an endless amount of beach available.

This is "the beach". There is metered parking which is meticulously monitored by York's finest. ;) There are restaurants and shops along the beach.
