About an hour south of Glasgow, access to the grounds is free and parking is also free if you park at the beach (Maidens) and walk up into the grounds. Incredibly scenic and often the weather is mysteriously different from other parts of West Scotland.

Right on the coast and overlooking the Isle of Arran, the Mull of Kintyre and Ailsa Craig, Culzean Castle [prounced cullane], on the Ayrshire coast, is about a 20 minute drive from Doonbank Cottage. Museum
“Home of Scotland’s National poet, Rabbie Burns. Perhaps best known the world over for the song “For Auld Lang Syne” which is traditionally sung at New Year celebrations. Our daughter Hannah will be holding her wedding reception here in March 2020. Don't miss a visit to the thatched cottage and follow the "Poet's Walk" along to the museum. Have a drink or a coffee in the "Brig O' Doon" Hotel which is close by, and don't forget to visit the Auld Brig at Alloway where the drunken Tam's horse Meg lost her tail to Cutty Sark in the famous story of "Tam O' Shanter"”

“Lovely atmosphere. Good range of food, the tapas was excellent (large portions too). The children's menu is also extensive, including a "build your own pizza" option - after which you may be invited into the kitchen to see it slid into the pizza oven!”
